Published: 23:41, 3 May 2026 | Updated: 23:58, 3 May 2026 A deranged man allegedly snuck into his ex-girlfriend's home and tried to murder her son, police say. Robert Schreiber, 42, is accused of breaking into the New York home and repeatedly stabbing his ex's 22-year-old son, according to a press release from the Suffolk County Police Department.  Schreiber's long-term girlfriend called it quits on April 17 and locked the 42-year-old out of her home on Marvin Street in Patchogue, a town on Long Island. The following morning at 8am Schreiber allegedly invaded the home, entering through an unlocked window while everyone inside was asleep. Schreiber allegedly busted into the victim’s room and stabbed him seven times, nearly killing him. His name has not been released. Family members in the home were able to stop Schreiber and call 911, allowing the 22-year-old to escape down the stairs.  Suffolk County Police officers arrived on the scene and rushed the victim to NYU Langone Hospital, where he was treated for his stab wounds. Police arrested Schreiber and found him in possession of the knife he allegedly used in the attack.  Robert Schreiber, 42, was arrested after he allegedly stabbed his ex girlfriend's son Schreiber's long-term girlfriend called it quits on April 17 and locked the 42-year-old out of her home on Marvin Street in Patchogue The 42-year-old faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, burglary, assault, weapons possession, child endangerment, and harassment.  The alleged perp is being held on $100,000 cash bail, $1,000,000 bond, or a $1,000,000 partially secured bond while the case is pending, per the release. Schreiber is due back in court on May 28, 2026, and faces up to 25 years in prison if he's found guilty. 'This was a violent attack on a young man in his own home,' District Attorney Tierney said.  'Domestic violence does not always end when a relationship does, it often escalates. We will aggressively prosecute this defendant and seek justice for the victim and his family.' This follows another fatal stabbing that occurred at a fast food chain on Long island. Rony Yahir Alvarenga Rivera, 22, was taken into custody on Saturday after he turned himself in over the deaths of his 32-year-old roommate and 42-year-old coworker, Ana Maria del Aguila-Cordova.  The 42-year-old faces multiple charges, including attempted murder Aguila-Cordova was found outside of an Island Park Wendy's, where she and Rivera reportedly worked together, at around 12.30am on Friday after she had taken out the trash.  The second victim - who has not yet been identified - was found stabbed to death in her home in Valley Stream, and had lived in the same apartment building as Rivera.  Her body was found not long after 3am on Friday. She is believed to have been killed at around 9pm on Thursday night, police said.  No comments have so far been submitted.
