The Denver Broncos finally got to their first pick in the third round of the NFL Draft on Friday night, taking Texas A&M defensive tackle Tyler Onyedim with pick No. 66. The Broncos entered the 2026 NFL Draft on Thursday with seven picks during the three-day event. They added an eighth after a Friday trade with the Buffalo Bills. Onyedim bolsters a defensive front that had a void when John Franklin-Myers left in free agency, but still has key pieces like Zach Allen and Malcolm Roach. He had 48 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble for the Aggies last season. The Broncos, coming off the No. 1 seed in the AFC and a trip to the conference title game, didn’t pick in the first or second rounds for the second time in franchise history. They sent the No. 30 pick in March to the Miami Dolphins in a deal to acquire wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. The trade achieved one of Denver’s offseason goals: adding a play-making weapon to help quarterback Bo Nix in his third season. They moved out of the second round with the trade to the Bills, moving from No. 62 to No. 66 and adding No. 182 in the sixth round. The Broncos don’t have any glaring needs, but will look to add depth to a team that was one score away from a Super Bowl appearance. Look for inside linebacker, tight end and offensive line to be among the Broncos’ priorities. A long, powerful presence with quick hands and a lot of burst off the snap, Onyedim has the ability to line up across a defensive front — regardless of scheme. More consistency at the point of attack is needed here, though. — Nick Baumgardner Onyedim might not have a true distinguishing trait, but he also doesn’t have a fatal flaw that will be exposed by NFL competition. He projects best as a one-gap penetrator and dependable rotational piece. Adequately athletic without a true distinguishing trait — or a fatal flaw. Spot the pattern.
