The latest government assessment reveals that the earthquake completely destroyed over 31,000 homes and damaged another 171,273 buildings. The magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck near the town of San Jose del Palmar in the western department of Choco on August 10. Authorities estimate that the disaster has affected 15 of the country's departments. The death toll previously stood at 319.
