Death at psychedelic rave sparks police investigation after man falls two metres from dance floor during altercation

By CAITLIN POWELL - NEWS REPORTER Published: 06:55, 25 July 2026 | Updated: 06:56, 25 July 2026 A man has died after falling two metres from a dance floor at a secret rave, known as a 'bush doof', on a rural Queensland property.  Police were called to a property on Leggets Lane in Glenwood, between the Fraser Coast and Gympie regions, about 2.30am on Saturday after reports that a 40-year-old Kallangur man fell following an altercation.  He sustained critical injuries and died at the scene a short time later. Queensland Police said a 33-year-old Burpengary man remains under police guard at Gympie Hospital. The incident occurred during a two-day 'psychedelic' festival called 'Rhythm of the Wild', which was attended by more than 1,000 people, according to sources who spoke to The Courier Mail. Following the death, organisers announced the event had been cancelled in a social media post published about 9am and seen by Daily Mail Australia.  'It is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation of Rhythm of the Wild,' they wrote.   'Due to the tragic passing of a valued member of our community, we ask that nobody comes to the property unless specifically requested.  A man has died after falling two metres from a dance floor at a secret rave on a rural Queensland property in the early hours of Saturday morning. Thank you for your understanding, compassion and respect.' They also told attendees that they should begin leaving the property when able and safe to do so. 'In the meantime, there is to be no music or other activities taking place on site. Please be respectful of those affected and help maintain a quiet and peaceful environment,' they said. The Daily Mail has contacted the organisers for comment. The event was promoted as a 'portal to a world alive with possibility'.  'Feel the ground vibrate with basslines from forest stages. Lose yourself in kaleidoscopic light as art comes alive around you,' the description said. 'Forge connections that feel like rediscovering a lost tribe. The event, which was promoted as a 'portal to a world alive with possibility', was cancelled by organisers on social media by 9am on Saturday. Pictured: Stock image of people at a nightclub  A resident on a neighbouring property told The Courier Mail they called police about 'horrendous' noise about 7.30pm and again at 10.45pm on Friday, before the incident.  '[A person minding the gate said it was] just a family and friends gathering,' they said. 'I can get past the noise but if all those fires catch on our property we've lost all our feed for our cattle.' The property owners where the event was held had posted on social media earlier in the week to advise they would be away while a 'party' took place on the site.  'A quick heads-up, legends! For the first time since opening Hidden Camp, we're actually taking a weekend off,' they wrote. 'And to our awesome neighbours... if you happen to hear a little more noise or music than usual... sorry in advance... we're having a party.  'Thanks for all the support you've shown us over the past year.
