Dahlin, Toews, Landeskog named finalists for NHL's Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin, Colorado Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog and Winnipeg Jets foward Jonathan Toews have been named this year’s finalists for the NHL’s Bill Masterton Trophy, given to the player who best displays qualities of “perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication.”Dahlin scored 19 goals and set a career-high in points with 74 for the Sabres, who reached the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since 2011. The Swedish defenseman took a leave of absence in November to be with his fiancée, Caroline Matovec, who had experienced heart failure months earlier and required a heart transplant. Matovec and Dahlin also lost their unborn child during the medical emergency. Dahlin missed five games this season while attending health checkups with Matovec, before she was healthy enough to join Dahlin in Buffalo in March. The Sabres are currently in the second round of the playoffs, with Game 1 against the Canadiens set for Wednesday night.
