Daducha, Chahan dams get fresh push

Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Salman Ghani has directed the relevant authorities to complete the Daducha Dam by December 31 this year and expedite the new water supply scheme from Chahan Dam to improve water supply to the outskirts, city and cantonment areas of Rawalpindi. The commissioner issued the directives during his visit to the Daducha and Chahan dams, where he reviewed the ongoing construction and development activities. He was informed that the Daducha Dam project had achieved 92% physical progress. With the scheduled completion date set for December 31, 2026, the commissioner directed the authorities to ensure its timely completion. Work is currently under way on stone pitching, the spillway structure, retaining wall and bridge, while construction activities are also continuing on the intake and outlet structures and the residential colony. Ghani directed that all remaining works be completed at an accelerated pace in accordance with the prescribed timeline. The commissioner said no compromise would be made on construction quality and that unnecessary delays in the project's completion would not be tolerated. He directed the relevant departments to ensure effective coordination and the prompt resolution of technical issues. He also called for regular and effective reviews of progress at every stage of the project. "Daducha Dam's timely completion will significantly improve water supply in Rawalpindi and serve as an important milestone in meeting the city's growing water requirements in the future," he said. Ghani directed the authorities to implement a comprehensive strategy to ensure completion of all remaining works by December 31, 2026. During his visit to Chahan Dam, the commissioner also reviewed the ongoing construction and development work and directed the authorities to utilise all available resources to complete the project as soon as possible. He said Chahan Dam would prove to be an important and valuable asset for Rawalpindi by increasing the city's future water storage and supply capacity. The dam would also play a significant role in the effective storage and management of rainwater during the monsoon season, he added.
