عنوان هذا المقال مُستلهم من الكتاب المهم والأساسيّ لعالم الاجتماع الألمانيّ “ماكس فيبر” الذي نُشر سنة 1904 بعنوان: “الأخلاق البروتستانتيّة وروح الرأسماليّة”.

هذا الكتاب يصف (وإن كان لا يشرح تماماً) علاقة التعزيز المتبادل (هو لم يصف العلاقة بذلك صراحةً) بين البروتستانتيّة، وتحديداً البروتستانتيّة التطهّريّة (البيوريتاريان) والكالفنيّة، و”الرأسماليّة” المتمدّدة والمستشرية في حينه، والآخذة بالهيمنة شيئاً فشيئاً على جميع مناحي الحياة (بما في ذلك الثقافة والأفكار).
