Crew member dies after falling from luxury cruise ship off the Scottish coast

The Hebridean Princess had been sailing near the town of Oban, through the Sound of Mull channel between the Hebrides and the mainland on the evening of June 16 when the man fell overboard. The Oban Coastguard Rescue Team rushed out to the scene just after 8pm but could not save the sailor. The cruise ship's operator Hebridean Island Cruises issued a statement about the man's death, saying their thoughts were with his family, friends and colleagues. A spokesperson said: 'We are supporting the relevant authorities in their inquiries. 'The individual's next of kin have been informed, and our thoughts are with their family, friends, and colleagues. 'No further details will be provided while inquiries are ongoing.' There were 38 people aboard the ship at the time of the incident. The Hebridean Princess is a luxury vessel which takes passengers on private tours across the Hebrides, Shetland Isles and Orkney. The crewman died after falling into the water from the luxury cruise ship Hebridean Princess last Tuesday evening around 8pm The ship had been sailing in the Sound of Mull, between the Hebrides and the mainland, with 38 people onboard. The coastguard could not save him and found his body around 8.30pm The police were told the man's body had been found in the water near Corran Esplanade at about 8.30pm on Tuesday, a Police Scotland spokesperson said. They added: 'His death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.' A week-long tour on the Hebridean Princess can cost up to £16,272.75 per ticket according to the Hebridean Island Cruises website.
