Most people want to quietly curl up and die in a corner when a drunken family member grabs the microphone and starts caterwauling at a wedding, but not former Coronation Street star Rhea Bailey.
Primarily the relative who took to the mic and serenaded the couple is her sister, the world-renowned R&B singing sensation, Grammy award winner and the voice behind the song of summer 2006, Put Your Records On, Corinne Bailey Rae!
Taking to Instagram, Rhea uploaded a carousel of images and clips, showing various people performing at her beautiful wedding to her now-husband, Darren Everest, himself member of vocal harmony group, The Overtones.
The loved-up couple tied the knot back in June, with Rhea only now giving people a glimpse inside her special day.
‘I decided to sing at my own wedding!’ Rhea began the caption.
‘Just for the craic! I wanted to create a ‘wedding singer vibe’ And it worked!’ We had everyone joining it. There’s a whole 4 min video of it, that you’ll never see!
‘But then we were spoiled… with real professional talent!
‘One of my highlights from the whole day was when the amazing [Ramzi] sang “Can We Talk” and everyone burst into song! Then my big sister, [Corinne], 2x #grammyawardwinner sang for us
‘She’d asked me to sing at her wedding years ago, so it was lovely to have her sing at mine.
Then to get the party started, the platinum selling group that is my husbands band… [The Overtones] got everyone on the dance floor.
‘Amazing having our friend, my husband and my sister spoil us. It was such a treat. So no tips there i’m afraid. Safe to say the entertainment went down a treat!’
Ramzi, who’d performed alongside the Bailey sisters and Darren commented: ‘It was such a special wedding, and atmosphere. What a surprise it was to see you get up and sing. You smashed it. Thank you for the kind words. It was an honour to perform for you both’
Bhavna Limbachia, Rhea’s former Corrie co-star commented: ‘You are one super talented lady! I was blown away by your voice! I have the footage!’
Darren himself commented: ‘Can we do it again please? (but without paying! lol)’, to which Rhea replied: ‘Sounds like the best plan EVER!!’
Rhea previously revealed that she’d had not one, but two weddings, taking to Instagram to show some snaps from an incredibly private cermony between her and Darren.
‘Two days before our big white wedding. [Darren] and I snuck off, without telling our kids, or anyone else for that matter, and got secretly married at our local registry office!’ she began the caption.
‘With only my sister and her husband as our witnesses, it was more special than I ever imagined it could be.
‘It felt so intimate, as we were so focused on each other and no-one else. We got the giggles, we both shed a tear and we were brimming with emotions.
‘After the ceremony, we went to a beautiful restaurant, just the two of us, and talked about our plans over the next few days.
‘And how incredibly lucky we are to feel so much love for each other after so many years together.’
While Rhea looked like an angel at her wedding, her Corrie character, Caz Hammond, was certainly a lot less than angelic!
Arriving as the fiancée of Kate Connor (Faye Brooks), it soon became clear there was something very wrong with Caz.
Her extreme jealousy and deep manipulation eventually saw Kate break up with her and escape her abusive ways.
Later befriending Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon), Caz began to terrify her, too, orchestrating fake burglaries to act as Maria’s protector, before trying to kiss her.
When rejected, Caz faked her own murder and framed Maria, creating an abundance of evidence to prove the theory, and saw Maria arrested for the crime.
Discovered by Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward), Caz was eventually brought to justice and sent off to the clink for perverting the course of justice.
