Labubu, a beloved character from Chinese pop toy brand Pop Mart, has made a major splash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The popular character not only appears in the tournament's official theme song music video but also made a surprise cameo during the World Cup opening ceremony – becoming a standout Chinese element on a global stage.

At the June 11 opening ceremony in Mexico City, Mexico, two Labubu figures dressed in World Cup jerseys appeared as special guests, playfully interacting with the cheering crowd. In front of cameras from around the world, their adorable looks and quirky moves stole the spotlight.

Online, Labubu fans from across the globe excitedly shared the moment their favorite character appeared at the world's biggest sporting event. Many Chinese and international fans took to social media to show off their cherished Labubu collections, joining in the celebration.

Leading up to the tournament, Labubu was featured in several World Cup collaborations. A co-branded collection inspired by the event launched in April, followed by Labubu's appearance in May in the music video of Goals, a song on the 2026 FIFA World Cup's official album – marking the first time a designer toy brand has ever been featured in an official FIFA World Cup music video.

Instantly recognizable by its nine teeth and perky pointed ears, Labubu is a key member of "The Monsters" – a group of elf-like characters. Since its creation in 2015, Labubu has evolved from a niche designer toy into one of China's most recognizable cultural brands on the world stage.
