Chicago Cubs closer Daniel Palencia gets revised diagnosis, plus more pitching notes

CHICAGO — While their pitching staff remains in flux, the Chicago Cubs gained some clarity with Daniel Palencia, who underwent an MRI that showed a mild lat strain, manager Craig Counsell said Tuesday. The revised diagnosis could mean Chicago’s closer is activated within two weeks.The Cubs placed Palencia on the injured list last week (retroactive to April 14) with a left oblique strain and continued to gather information.
