Championship promotion race hots up after play-off twist with Coventry on brinkWhile Coventry edge closer to their Premier League dream, the races for both the second automatic promotion spot and play-offs are still wide open with less than a month of football to goCommentsSportNathan Ridley Senior Sports Reporter14:09, 07 Apr 2026View 5 ImagesThe Championship always provides late-season drama(Image: Kevin Hodgson/MI News/NurPhoto via Getty Images)A feast of Easter football has seen the race for promotion to the Premier League get even more interesting. Although the most high-profile result involving a Championship side came in the FA Cup quarter-finals, with Southampton dramatically beating Arsenal 2-1, plenty happened in the second tier itself.‌Coventry edged closer to automatic promotion despite their 0-0 draw at Hull, who themselves earned a handy point in their pursuit of a play-off spot. The big winners of the Easter period were Ipswich, who moved into second place and capitalised on Middlesbrough's fifth game without a victory.‌But it was frustration for Millwall, who dropped out of the automatic spots on Monday by losing 2-1 at home to Norwich. In turn, that win has given Norwich an outside chance of making the top six, although they still trail eighth-placed Derby County by five points.‌And there's more action to come on Tuesday. Wrexham, who occupy the final play-off spot, welcome Southampton to the Racecourse Ground, but a win for the Saints would see them climb above their hosts.Let's run through the top eight's remaining fixtures.JOIN US ON FACEBOOK!
