Cesc Fabregas has told Chelsea all they need after Liam Rosenior sack – 'Biggest dream'

Cesc Fabregas once admitted his "biggest dream" was to coach a Premier League club as Chelsea now look for a new long-term manager. The Blues sacked Liam Rosenior this week after just 23 games in charge, despite him signing a six-year contract in January. Rosenior , who arrived from Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg, lost seven of his last eight matches , making his position at Stamford Bridge untenable. Following his dismissal, Calum McFarlane will assume interim responsibility of the club until the season’s end, with Chelsea still chasing European qualification. In the meantime, the club's hierarchy will search for a new head coach. One name that has repeatedly been linked with the Chelsea job in the past six months has been former Blues midfielder Fabregas. Latest Gunners news and more on our dedicated Facebook page Rumours over the Spaniard being the one to succeed Rosenior have intensified once more this week, given Fabregas’ success with Como in Serie A. The former Premier League winner has turned their fortunes around since taking over as permanent manager in 2024, having previously played for the club, acted as interim boss and then as assistant manager. With Como currently fifth in Serie A and potentially securing Champions League football next season, Fabregas' promising start to management has turned heads across Europe. And he even admitted when he took on his first coaching role at Como that he sees the Premier League as the pinnacle of his ambitions, suggesting he would be open to returning to Stamford Bridge. Fabregas said: "The Premier League is the objective; it is the biggest dream a coach can have. But let's keep improving. Have I got it in me? Time will tell. I believe so much in my methodology and every day you learn so much. Expectations are there but it is what you do and how you manage those expectations." He added: "I want to enjoy the ride, enjoy the moment. There are stages to everything, and I'm still in the early stages where I'm learning so much. One hundred per cent we will give it our all to be the best we can be. I realise that I am very young but I know what I want to do." Yet, Fabregas, who has also been deemed by some as a potential successor to Mikel Arteta at another of his former English clubs, Arsenal , recently reiterated his commitment to Como. The 38-year-old admitted that a departure from Como appears unlikely this summer, given his contract ends in July 2028 and he still has so much he wants to achieve in Italy. He said: "I am very committed to this project. You never know but right now I think it’s very unlikely I’ll leave Como. "Last year, I wanted to see how other clubs operated. I mentioned it to the president, but I decided to stay. I’m very happy with what we’ve been able to achieve." As quoted by the Metro , Fabregas added: "This is an important project. I need to feel good here. It’s important that my family is happy, and if they’re happy in Como, I’ll stay." On the subject of a potential future role managing the Italian national side, Fabregas added: "Maybe someday. Right now, I'm too much of a coach and I need to be on the pitch every day. Being the national team coach right now might be boring, too much free time. In the future, when I'm older, you never know."
