The incident occurred in the Teotihuacán archaeological zone about one hour north of Mexico City on Monday, according to the Mexican government. Officials say the gunman killed himself after the attack.Police recovered a firearm, a bladed weapon, and live cartridges at the scene. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she was following updates and was in touch with the Canadian embassy.The pre-Hispanic pyramids and ruins at Teotihuacán are a Unesco World Heritage Site and among the most popular tourist attractions in the country.Sheinbaum said on social media that she had instructed her security cabinet to investigate the incident and provide all necessary support. "What happened today in Teotihuacán deeply pains us. I express my most sincere solidarity with the affected individuals and their families," she wrote in Spanish. Canada's foreign minister, Anita Anand, confirmed a Canadian was killed and another wounded in the incident. She said Canadian consular officials were providing assistance.The BBC has contacted the Canadian government for more information. State Security Secretary Cristóbal Castañeda Camarillo told reporters on Monday that two Colombians, a Russian and a Canadian were among those injured.
