The 25-year-old left-back was a second-half substitute in Bayern’s 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday and assisted Harry Kane’s stoppage-time equaliser. However, the German club announced on Friday that “following an examination from Bayern’s medical unit”, it has been determined that the full-back injured his left hamstring in that game. They added Davies will “therefore be out of action for several weeks.” Canada Soccer said it is in “close contact” with Davies and will remain in touch with Bayern’s medical team. “Our focus is supporting his recovery and providing every available resource, including specialized soft tissue expertise, to give him the best possible pathway back to full fitness ahead of the FIFA World Cup,” a statement said. Davies has made just 23 appearances this season, starting eight times in all competitions, after a number of injury issues in recent years. The left-back tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee while on international duty in March of last year. Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen accused Canada Soccer of being “grossly negligent” in its handling of Davies’ injury. This season, he has missed games due to a hamstring injury and a muscle strain. Canada are one of the hosts of this summer’s World Cup alongside the United States and Mexico. Davies is an integral part of Jesse Marsch’s Canada squad, having made 58 appearances for his nation and scoring 15 goals. Canada were drawn into Group B and have group games against Bosnia & Herzegovina (June 12), Qatar (June 18) and Switzerland (June 24). Before their World Cup kicks off, they face Uzbekistan (June 2) and the Republic of Ireland (June 6) in international friendlies. Bayern secured the Bundesliga title last month and have two league games left to play: away to Wolfsburg on Saturday and then at home to Koln on May 16.
