Bryson DeChambeau on the verge of completing the most embarrassing season of his career after horrific US Open

This weekend marks the two-year anniversary of Bryson DeChambeau's second U.S. Open major championship, but it may as well have been a decade ago. Maybe two decades.

Heck, did it even really happen? Doesn't feel like it these days. With the way DeChambeau is playing right now, you almost wonder if it was all a dream.

Because right now — this season — it doesn't seem possible that DeChambeau actually won a major.

YouTube's most famous golfer missed the U.S. Open cut this week after finishing the two rounds at 5-over, marking his third missed cut at a major this season.

Three. THREE! For those counting at home, that's all of them. That's right. Bryson DeChambeau has not yet played a weekend this season in terms of major tournaments.

Every month you think he's found a new low, and every month Bryson manages to find a new bottom.

And, at this point, it's indefensible.

Obviously, everyone is jumping on Bryson today, and rightfully so. I get it. I am, too. I used to love Bryson DeChambeau.

Well, scratch that. I used to despise him. Back in the day — I'm talking a decade ago — he was insufferable. He was young, and annoying, and wore the stupid hat all the time, and only cared about looking as big as possible and hitting his driver a mile.

And it was cool. He was different. But he wasn't good. He never won.

Something changed a few years back. Something clicked. He became humble, and likeable, and actually got really good at golf. He won the U.S. Open back in 2024 (and 2020) after a classic battle with Rory McIlroy, and you thought he'd finally arrived.

Fans loved him. The media loved him. For about two years, Bryson was a major factor at every major tournament. He finished no worse than 10th in all but two majors in 2024 and 2025.

This year, however, it's all gone to you-know-what.

LIV Golf is all but dead at this point, and you can see it on everyone's face. Only six of the 13 LIV golfers made the cut at Shinnecock. Six. Bryson missed it. Jon Rahm missed it. Cam Smith missed it.

Bryson, in particular, has looked miserable all season. In fact, he's looked worse than miserable.

He's looked lost. He's sounded lost. There have been multiple occasions over the past year where DeChambeau has legitimately floated the idea of focusing purely on his YouTube channel over his actual golf game.

"I'd love to grow my YouTube channel three times, maybe even more," DeChambeau said while practicing for last month's LIV Golf tournament at Trump National. "I would love to. I'd love to do a bunch of dubbing in different languages, giving the world more reason to watch YouTube.

"And then I'd love to play tournaments that want me."

He also told Pat McAfee last year that he believed the entertainment side of golf (a.k.a. his YouTube channel) is already bigger than the professional game.

Does that sound like someone who is anywhere close to winning something substantial ever again?

No. Of course not.

It sounds like someone who is on the cusp of completing the most embarrassing season of his career: four straight missed cuts.

After these first three majors — and after a pathetic showing this week at Shinnecock — there's no reason to bet against it.
