Antonia Eastwood, the wife of Gemma's older brother Ashley, fled Maidstone's Oakwood House Register Office, leaving the paint-covered bride in tears.‌Following the incident her brother Ashley said he had disowned his sister, adding: "We don't want anything to do with her." Thankful, Gemma still managed to compose herself and washed the paint away from her face in a nearby cubicle and used a replacement dress before she married her partner of more than 20 years.‌Neither Ashley or Eastwood had been invited to the wedding following a bitter feud that started a year before at their own nuptials. Gemma spoke following the attack: "We had waited for that day for so long. Nothing was going to stop me. She was determined that the wedding was not going to happen.
