British Airways axes flight after crew’s 'booze-fuelled night' at luxury Caribbean resort

British Airways was forced to cancel a flight from Barbados to London after crew members engaged in a heavy drinking session at a luxury £500-per-night resort.

Flight BA254, scheduled to depart Bridgetown at 4.40pm on Sunday and land in the UK at 6.20am on Monday, was suddenly axed, leaving up to 336 passengers stranded in the Caribbean capital.

The Boeing 777-200 service was grounded after airline bosses stood down the entire crew following their vodka-and-beer binge at the all-inclusive, oceanfront retreat just hours before they were due to operate the aircraft.

During the Saturday night session, one stewardess reportedly vomited in the bar while a male colleague collapsed and had to be assisted back to his room.

Other guests at the idyllic retreat, who had saved up for once-in-a-lifetime holidays, grew increasingly frustrated with the group's behaviour and began recording them on their phones.

When confronted, the intoxicated crew members allegedly responded dismissively, slurring: "We're British Airways crew what of it?"

The resort, which caters to honeymooners and families on special trips, saw complaints lodged against the cabin crew following the incident.

A source familiar with the situation explained the context behind the incident, noting that staying at remarkable hotels in exotic locations is one of the benefits of working as flight crew.

"It's an immense privilege, and it's understandable that the group wanted to enjoy themselves," the source said.

"But some of this crew behaved in a manner that did not befit British Airways."

The insider described how alcohol continued to flow throughout the evening as staff become increasingly intoxicated.

"The vodka and beers kept being poured and some of the team were clearly drunk," they added.

Four crew members are said to have been suspended in connection with the incident.

The entire team originally scheduled to operate the flight has been repositioned back to Britain as passengers on services over the following days, with the suspended individuals arriving in the UK in the early hours of yesterday.

Industry sources have warned the financial fallout from the cancelled service and the crew's conduct could reach hundreds of thousands of pounds.

British Airways confirmed to The Sun: "We expect the highest standards of our crew, and are urgently investigating this matter."

The ordeal comes just weeks after a British Airways flight was forced to make an emergency landing after an explosion sparked fears of a "terrorist incident" on board.

Passengers on the flight from London to Las Vegas panicked after an object on the jet combusted at 30,000 feet, sending smoke around the cabin.

The pilot of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner was heard telling air traffic controllers he was "trying to keep the panic to a minimum".

But the cause of the combustion was much more mundane - a portable phone charger which exploded and caught fire inside.
