Blackpool has emerged as Britain's most violent area according to the latest police statistics, with the Lancashire seaside resort recording approximately 69 offences per 1,000 inhabitants during 2025.

The figures reveal that roughly one in every 20 residents experienced violent crime over the 12-month period.

This rate places the town significantly ahead of all other locations nationwide.

Westminster and Bradford occupied second and third positions, respectively, each registering violent crime rates exceeding or equal to 53 incidents per 1,000 people.

Both Middlesbrough and Manchester also featured prominently in the data, with each recording more than 50 violent offences per 1,000 residents.

Within Blackpool itself, more than 3,100 offences resulted in physical harm to victims, whilst a further 4,000 violent incidents were recorded where no injuries occurred.

Additionally, police logged approximately 2,700 cases involving stalking and harassment, contributing to the town's overall violent crime tally.

Clive Grunshaw, Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, said: "Serious violence is corrosive. It destroys lives, damages communities, and requires a whole society approach involving policing, criminal justice, health services and local authorities."

He told the Mirror: "These figures are, of course, alarming and highlight the very real challenges faced in popular seaside resorts like Blackpool, which attract millions of visitors, but also in Lancashire and across the country in tackling serious violent crime.

"My Police and Crime Plan makes clear that we will challenge any culture of violence through strong enforcement and continued investment in prevention within our communities.”

The gap between Blackpool and its nearest rivals remains substantial, with Bradford recording 53.6 violent crimes per 1,000 people and Westminster slightly behind at 53 per 1,000.

Middlesbrough registered 52.5 offences per 1,000 residents, whilst Manchester's rate stood at 52 per 1,000.

Blackpool

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Buckinghamshire proved to be among the safest locations in Britain, with just 14.3 violent crimes per 1,000 inhabitants - less than a quarter of Blackpool's figure.

Waverley, Wokingham, Richmond-upon-Thames and the Isles of Scilly all recorded similarly low rates, each below 15.2 per 1,000.

The stark disparity between these areas and Blackpool reflects deeper socioeconomic factors affecting the coastal town.

Nearly four in 10 of Blackpool's neighbourhoods fall into England's most deprived category, making it one of the country's poorest areas.

The resort also faces elevated unemployment levels, a healthcare system under considerable strain, and the unenviable distinction of having the lowest life expectancy in England.

Bradford faces comparable challenges, ranking among the 15 most deprived local authorities nationally.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "We remain committed to disrupting and preventing crime across Lancashire, including in Blackpool.

"We want to reassure anyone with concerns that we have dedicated teams across the town, covering a number of different aspects of policing, including community engagement, immediate response, and detectives.

"These officers will continue to conduct their duties and police Blackpool with the intent of keeping residents safe and reducing crime."
