They have monitored the 26-year-old throughout the season and are in discussions over a deal worth in the region of £11million. Brighton have an existing relationship with Olympiacos, having signed 18-year-old striker Charalampos Kostoulas for £30m last summer. Adding a right-back to the squad is one of the top priorities for summer strengthening. Joel Veltman, 34, is out of contract at the end of the season and is likely to leave. Fabian Hurzeler has converted Veltman’s fellow Dutchman Mats Wieffer from a midfielder into a right-back, but depth is lacking at right-back compared to left-back where the head coach can choose between player of the season Ferdi Kadioglu and Belgian international Maxim De Cuyper. Costinha, a former Portugal youth international, joined Olympiacos from Rio Ave in 2024. He has made 35 appearances for Olympiacos this season, including seven outings in the group stage of the Champions League, featuring in defeats against Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid. Olympiacos finished runners-up to AEK Athens in the Greek Super League. Brighton, currently seventh in the table, are in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League, Europa League or Europa Conference League, depending on Sunday’s result at home to Manchester United and results elsewhere.
