The Paraguay international landed awkwardly after challenging for a header and seemed in some distress, presumably because it could be a serious setback before the World Cup.‌Gomez, 23, saw his left leg buckle under his weight after rising highest on the halfway line. Danny Welbeck came over to support his stricken teammate.‌The midfielder hobbled off, looking in pain, after Brighton staff helped him off. Karou Mitoma replaced Gomez in the 20th minute.‌Sky Sports co-commentator Alan Smith said at the time: "It's clearly a genuine injury, and you feel for him, but maybe the stoppage won't hurt Brighton too much. Mitoma's introduction shouldn't unduly disturb them, the same shape."Over on BBC Radio 5 Live, the former Spurs player Andy Reid said: "Gomez has been in great form.
