Manchester United have been dealt a new injury blow after Luke Shaw was forced off against Brentford. The defender was replaced by Leny Yoro in the second period. Shaw limped from the field at Old Trafford and was accompanied by a physio after picking up an issue. Having been plagued by injuries in previous seasons, Shaw had been on course to feature in every one of United's games this season, but that record now could be in doubt. The England international endured a difficult start to the game as he struggled to handle the pace up against him. He picked up an early yellow card for pulling back Kevin Schade but eventually settled into the game before being unable to continue. United were able to hang on for a win against Brentford despite Shaw's late exit from the field. Michael Carrick's side were leading 2-0 when Shaw was replaced after 73 minutes, after goals from Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko in the opening half. It was a nervous end to proceedings, however, when Mathias Jensen scored with three minutes remaining. The midfielder fired a powerful, curling strike past Senne Lammens, who was late to see the ball due to the number of bodies in the way. But United withstood some late pressure to earn three points, and with it come one step closer to European football. Shaw has already surpassed his best appearance tally in United colours. That came in the 2020/21 season when he tallied 31 Premier League appearances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer . Speaking ahead of this season, Shaw opened up on the toll his injuries took on him, physically and mentally, last term. "I just put a lot of blame on myself. I just really felt that I was letting the team down not being available for a long time. It's something I've not experienced to be honest. I know I've had a lot of injuries, but it was more mentally how tough it was. It was really tough. I won't go too much into that. "I think last season it was one to forget really. Like I said, I've had injuries in the past, but last season it was different kind of injuries. "It was horrible. To be fair, it started with a calf and I've never had a calf injury in my life, so I was never used to that. It was just a completely different rehab and stuff. Things just kept happening. It was really stressful, but I'm grateful that I'm here now and I feel fit." That fitness has paid off for Shaw and he will hope that his season has not been curtailed in the final moments.
