Hundreds of jobs have been saved after Brace's Bakery has been bought by a another family-owned food business. The sale of the iconic Welsh bakery has secured the future of the business and allowed the 250 staff employed at the Pen-y-Fan site to keep their jobs. On Friday, June 5, after many funding discussions including with the Welsh Government and private financiers, Brace's Bakery has announced that it has been acquired by Birmingham corporation, Boparan Private Office (BPO). BPO is made up of four divisions including, Amber (Agriculture & Property), UK Manufacturing (chicken, turkey, baked goods, pies, biscuits), Restaurants (Slim Chickens, Cinnamon Club and others) and Storteboom Food Group Europe (chicken, turkey). Brace's Bakery has faced "difficult headwinds over the last few months in a challenging market" with the announcement made in October 2025 that the Newport site was facing possible closure. In March workers at the Pen-y-Fan bakery were paid a week late after a sale of the site fell through with a previous potential buyer. Ranjit Singh Boparan, president of Boparan Private Office recognised the workforce at the bakery and the workers "tremendous commitment and loyalty during this challenging period." He continued: "I recognise there has been uncertainty while discussions have taken place, which have admittedly taken longer than expected as we worked to ensure everything was in place for customers, the management team and all colleagues." Mark Brace, managing director at Brace’s Bakery, said: "This is an important step for Brace’s Bakery, and my brother and fellow director, Jonathan, and I are both delighted that Boparan Private Office has stepped in to give the brand the opportunity to build on almost 125 years of baking heritage as we move into a new era. "Boparan Private Office understands the importance of the Brace’s brand, its people and the communities we serve. Their support provides a clear path forward for the business, allowing us to focus on strengthening Brace’s operations and continuing to deliver the quality products our customers expect."
