Boxer Reeves in stable but critical condition after suffering knockout

Boxer Lee reeves is in a "stable but critical condition" after suffering a knockout in his fight with Gary Cully at the 3Arena in Dublin on Saturday night.

The fight for the BUI Celtic super-lightweight title came to an end in the 10th round when Reeves suffered a heavy knockout from a big left hand from his opponent.

Reeves was stretchered out of the ring and then taken to the hospital for further checks. He was also treated with oxygen ringside.

In a statement Queensberry Promotions said: "Lee Reeves is still in hospital, in a critical but stable condition.

"We will know more in the coming days, and our thoughts and prayers remain with Lee and his family."

In an earlier statement on social media, Queensberry founder Frank Warren said: "All our thoughts and prayers are with Lee Reeves and his family at this time as he remains in hospital.

"Everyone at Queensberry is thinking of him and we're in constant contact with his team regarding his condition as we hope for positive news."

With the win, Cully improved his record to 20-2 but his immediate thoughts were with his opponent.

"My prayers and thoughts are with Lee Reeves, hopefully he's OK," he said.

"He came in there as a big underdog after fighting relatively at a lower level up until now.

"But he really showed that he can operate at a higher level. Huge credit to him."
