çok sayıda çocuk katıldı. Öldürülen çocuklar için dua edildi ve hatıralarını yaşatmak amacıyla yapılan anıta çiçekler bırakıldı. Saraybosna Belediye Başkanı Samir Avdic, burada yaptığı açıklamada, sorumluların yargılanması için çalışmaların sürdürülmesinin kurumların görevi olduğunu söyledi. Avdic, 5 Mayıs'ın Saraybosna için yas günü olduğunu belirterek, "Her yıl Saraybosna'da hayatını kaybeden 1601 masum çocuğu anmak zorundayız. En önemli nokta, masum çocuklarımızın ölümünden sorumlu olanları bulmak için elimizden gelen her şeyi yapacağımızdır. Çocuklar bugün aramızda olmalıydı ama ne yazık ki değiller." diye konuştu. Modern tarihin en uzun kuşatması 5 Nisan 1992'de başlamış ve 29 Şubat 1996'ya kadar devam etmişti. Kuşatmanın başladığı gün, Saraybosna Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi öğrencisi Suada Dilberovic ile Bosna Hersek Meclisinde çalışan iki çocuk annesi Olga Sucic, Sırp paramiliter birliklerin saldırıları sonucu Saraybosna'daki Vrbanja Köprüsü'nde öldürülmüştü. Sırp birlikleri, 5 Nisan'daki saldırılarında doğrudan sivilleri hedef almış, savaş karşıtı gösteri yapan Saraybosnalılara ateş açmıştı. Saraybosna'da 1425 gün süren kuşatmada 1601'i çocuk 11 bin 541 kişi öldürülmüştü.
