Boğaziçi Yayınevi Yayın Koordinatörü Prof. Dr. Berat Açıl, AA muhabirine, öncelikle akademik ve üniversite yayınlarına yer veren yayınevinin, akademik mirası kamuya değer katan bir yapıya dönüştürmeyi hedeflediğini söyledi. Yayınevinin temel etmenlerinden biri olan yayın kurulunun tamamen Boğaziçi Üniversitesi akademisyenlerinden oluştuğunu belirten Açıl, "Bastığımız kitaplar yayın kurulundaki hocalarımızın tavsiyeleriyle seçilmekte. Onların yönlendirmeleri ve yaptıkları editörlükler sonucu basılmakta. Herhangi bir kitabı bir editörün onayı, devamında da iki hakemin olumlu raporu olmadan basmıyoruz. Bu da bizi bir kültür yayıncılığından veya bir üniversite yayıncılığından akademik yayıncılığa götüren temel süreçlerden bir tanesi." diye konuştu. Açıl, yayınevinin üniversite vakfının kurduğu bir şirketin iştiraki olarak faaliyet gösterdiğini ve rektörlüğe bağlı olduğunu dile getirdi. Boğaziçi Üniversitesinin değerlerine sahip çıkıp görünürlüğünü artırma misyonuna işaret eden Açıl, şunları kaydetti: "Geçmişten günümüze Boğaziçi serisinden bahsetmem gerekir. Bu tam da bahsettiğim misyonun hayata geçirildiği seri olarak tasarlandı. Şu anda yayım aşamasında olan kitaplarımızdan bir tanesi 60 yıla yakın bizde hocalık yapan John Freely'e ait. Robert Kolejinden Boğaziçi Üniversitesine geçiş hikayesini anlattığı bu kitabı, daha önce İngilizce dilinde yayınlamıştık. Şimdi onun da çevirisini yaptık. Bu serideki amaçlarımızdan bir tanesi Robert Kolejinden Boğaziçi Üniversitesine geçişte üniversiteye hizmet etmiş hocalarımızın kültürel ve akademik ürünlerini hem Boğaziçi Üniversitesine hem Türkiye'ye, daha da geniş çerçevede ise bütün dünyaya sunmak. Dolayısıyla üniversitenin görünürlüğünü artırmak bu şekilde yayınevinin de üniversitenin sesi olmasına hizmet etmek." Prof. Dr. Açıl, Adalet Ağaoğlu'nun şahsi arşivini ve kitap teliflerini Boğaziçi Üniversitesine bağışladığını, yayınevinin de bir vefa borcu olarak onun kitaplarının basımına özel bir ehemmiyet gösterdiğini belirterek, "Bunu yaparken sıradan bir basım yapamazdık. Adalet Ağaoğlu'nun ve bizim titizliğimize yakışmazdı. Bunu eleştirel basım yoluyla yapıyoruz. Eleştirel basım, üniversite yayıncılığına çok yakışan bir basım. Yayınladığımız kitaplardan 'Fikrimin İnce Gülü' kitabını örnek verebilirim. Romanın sonunda yer alan sunuş bölümü, romanın alımlanmasına ve romandan uyarlanan Fikrimin İnce Gülü filminin dolaşımına odaklanıyor. Adalet Ağaoğlu Serisi bağlamında yayınladığımız bütün kitaplarda ve öykülerde bunu devam ettirmeye çalışıyoruz." dedi. Akademisyenlerden oluşan özel bir komisyon tarafından yayınevinin yönetildiğine vurgu yapan Açıl, şöyle devam etti: "Her birimiz yayın kurulu üyesi olarak aslında üniversiteye hizmet ediyoruz. Kendimizi konumlandırdığımız yer orası. Yayınevinde gönüllülük esasına dayalı iş yapıyoruz. Teliflerden gelen ücretleri öğrencilerimize burs olarak veriyoruz. Dolayısıyla ticari kaygıları olan bir yayınevi değiliz. Tabii ki bir yayınevi olarak kazanmak isteriz. Kazanmak istememizin sebebi de öğrencilerimize daha fazla yardımcı olabilmek." şeklinde konuştu. Berat Açıl, çocuk yayıncılığına da önem verdiklerinin altını çizerek, şunları aktardı: "'BU Çocuk' diye yine akademisyenlerden oluşan bir komisyonumuz var. Çocuk yayıncılığından ziyade çocuk edebiyatı diyoruz aslında. Dolayısıyla biz sanat ve estetik boyutu çok yüksek olan bir yayıncılık yapmak istiyoruz ve yapıyoruz. Oradaki temel yaklaşımımız aslında Boğaziçi Üniversitesinden hareketle ilerideki Boğaziçi öğrencilerini şimdiden yetiştirmek istiyoruz. Referans noktası olabilecek ürünler yayınlamaya çalışıyoruz. Örneğin, 'Ormandaki El Feneri' bunlardan bir tanesi. Türkiye'de sessiz kitap olarak bilinen bu kitabı bilinçli bir şekilde seçtik çünkü sessiz kitap yayıncılığını Türkiye'de yaygınlaştırmak istiyoruz. Zor kitaplar, kimsenin çok fazla girmek istemediği alanlar çünkü çok fazla masraflı. Geri dönüşünde de ticari açıdan baktığımızda birbirini çok dengeleyebilecek kitaplar değil. Fakat bizim akademik ve bir üniversite yayıncılığı olarak kaldırabileceğimiz bir yük şu anda." "Bu Nedir Serisi" ile Boğaziçi Üniversitesi'nde ne üretiliyor sorusunu cevaplamak istediklerine değinen Açıl, "Türkçe bir seri olacak bu. Sadece Boğaziçi Üniversitesi hocalarının yazdığı bir seri. Dolayısıyla 150 sayfa civarında her hocamızın uzmanı olduğu alanda, kamuya yönelik herkesin anlayabileceği ama akademik titizliği de koruyacak biçimde yazacağı kitaplar serisi yayınlamak istiyoruz. Bu anlamda ilk kitabımız 'Uluslararası Güvenlik' adıyla Jaan İslam hocamızın yazdığı bir kitap. Bunun devamı gelecek. Bugüne kadar Boğaziçi Üniversitesinin niteliği, kalitesi çokça anlatıldı ama söylem düzeyinde kaldı hep. Bunu biraz pratiğe dökmek istiyoruz. Yaptığımız yayınlarla kalitemizi göstermek istiyoruz. Bu bağlamda neyi seçtiğiniz, basmak istediğiniz, neyi basmadığınız da tabii ki önemli hale geliyor." Açıl, telif kitapları da artırmak istediklerine işaret ederek, "Boğaziçi Üniversitesi yayınevi deyince daha önce benim zihnimde biraz öyleydi. Çeviri kitapları daha ağırlıklıydı. Biz şu anda bunu dengelemeye ve telif kitaplarının sayısını artırmaya çalışıyoruz. Sadece hocalarımızın değil, başka akademisyenler, kültür insanları eserlerini bizden yayınlamak istiyor, tabii editöryal ve akademik süreçten geçtikten sonra.
