Boat overturns near Statue of Liberty as woman and child airlifted in critical condition and a dozen others rescued from water

Published: 05:35, 9 August 2026 | Updated: 05:57, 9 August 2026 A boat has overturned near the Statue of Liberty, prompting a massive emergency response and the rescue of dozens.  Multiple victims plunged into the water, and two victims, believed to be a woman and a child, were airlifted to the hospital in critical condition, police sources told local ABC affiliate WABC.  Reports of the incident came in just before 10.30pm on Saturday, and multiple units, including FDNY, Harbor, Scuba and Aviation, responded to the scene.  Divers with the New York Police Department were also seen in the water rescuing the victims.   Footage of the scene showed multiple emergency vessels in the water flashing lights.  The Daily Mail has reached out to the NYPD, FDNY and Coast Guard for more information.   This is a breaking news story...  Multiple emergency response units were seen in the water on Saturday night after reports that a boat overturned  Police soures told multiple outlets that a woman and child were airlifted to the hospital in critical condition and dozens were rescued
