long-wheelbase version of the X1 in the country, with prices starting at Rs 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The X1 LWB joins the standard-wheelbase X1 and the electric iX1 in BMW’s India line-up, with its primary focus being on offering greater space and comfort for rear-seat passengers. The X1 LWB measures 4,616mm in length, making it 116mm longer than the standard X1. Its wheelbase has grown by 108mm to 2,800mm, with most of the additional length being used to create more room in the second row. BMW claims the rear passengers get 109mm of additional kneeroom, while the rear seat cushion has also been extended by 15mm. There are a few visual changes to distinguish the LWB model from the standard X1. These include a chrome windowline and silver-finished inserts on the door sills and rear bumper. The cabin largely follows the standard X1's design, featuring BMW's curved display that combines the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. The equipment list includes wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, powered front seats, reclining rear seats, automatic climate control with rear vents, a panoramic glass roof, Harman Kardon audio, a 360-degree camera and a reverse assistant. With the longer body, boot capacity stands at 540 litres and can be increased to 1,700 litres by folding the rear seats. Powering the X1 LWB is a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 154bhp and 230Nm. This represents a 20bhp increase over the standard X1 petrol. The engine drives the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Unlike the standard-wheelbase X1, which continues to offer a 2.0-litre diesel engine, the LWB version is currently available only with petrol power. The X1 LWB therefore brings a more spacious rear cabin to BMW's entry-level SUV range, giving buyers an alternative to the standard X1 while retaining the same basic cabin architecture and front-wheel-drive powertrain layout.
