By NATASHA ANDERSON, US SENIOR NEWS REPORTER Published: 18:41, 18 August 2026 | Updated: 18:43, 18 August 2026 With a childhood spent in a picture-perfect $1.2 million Rhode Island mansion, Brooke Anderson appeared destined to follow in her hardworking parents' successful footsteps. But things went badly off-the-rails for the 28-year-old after she began a job as a high school biology teacher in Florida, with Anderson's good name now in tatters. Anderson has swapped her genteel East Coast life of white sand beaches, barbecues and vacations to Ecuador for the grim surroundings of Florida State Prison after she was convicted of sex acts against a high school student last June.  Shockingly, Anderson sexually abused the underage youngster in her classroom on the morning of her May 2025 arrest, before classes started. And now her victim has filed a civil suit against Anderson, claiming that the classroom rape and 'heinous sex acts' he endured at her hands caused him to lose his faith in God.  Anderson is two months into a 30 month prison sentence after admitting seven felony charges, including three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor. Her victim says those guilty pleas have substantially strengthened his civil case against her, with the Daily Mail contacting Anderson for comment on his allegations. Brooke Anderson, pictured in her graduation photo, has been jailed for sexually abusing a 17-year-old schoolboy and has now been hit with a civil suit by her alleged victim  Anderson enjoyed a privileged childhood and grew up in this $1.2 million mansion in Greenwich, Rhode Island  The boy, identified in court papers seen by the Daily Mail as RB, says in his filing Anderson's sex attacks left him with 'severe and permanent psychological injuries.'  He says he struggles with mental illness, including depression and anxiety, has lost the capacity for enjoyment in life and has suffered a loss of faith, the complaint alleged. Anderson's sexual abuse of the boy is particularly jarring and hard to understand, given the privileged stability of her childhood.  She was born to a loving mother and father who remain married. Her parents both work in business, with Anderson's father the chief financial officer of a large Providence insurance brokerage. Anderson has an older sister who works as an executive at a blue chip media conglomerate in New York City. The Anderson girls' mother was clearly a proud parent and shared photos of Brooke celebrating her elder sister's prom night.  There is no suggestion of any strife between Anderson and her parents.  Years before the scandal, the teacher's mother made occasional, affectionate references towards her daughter online. Anderson was a keen environmentalist prior to her arrest and completed multiple scientific studies before becoming a teacer  Anderson's mother took to Facebook in 2017 to reassure friends and family that her youngest daughter was safe from Hurricane Irma, a year after she had moved to the Sunshine State to begin her college education.   Anderson grew up in a beautiful white clapboard four bedroom, three bathroom mansion in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. The sprawling property has a three-car garage, manicured one-acre garden and sits in a quiet, leafy neighborhood a short drive from Rhode Island's famous beaches. Peace and quiet are likely in short supply for Anderson now that she resides in a humid prison cell - but the details of her attacks on the boy are a useful reminder that she is exactly where she belongs.  The youngster, who was a year under Florida's age of consent when Anderson sexually abused him, said in his civil complaint that Anderson began grooming him in 2021.  They met after Anderson took a job at Riverview High School in Tampa said RB, who is also suing Hillsborough County School Board over the sex attacks. Anderson is pictured in her most recent mugshot. She remains in prison and is serving a 30 month She began working there after graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Policy in 2020, before pursuing a Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Ecology at the University of Florida.  Anderson was his freshman science teacher and would welcome him into her classroom before school and during his lunch hour, the complaint alleged. The visitations continued during his sophomore year, with RB frequently eating in her classroom and after-school, the filing said. By his junior year, their teacher-student relationship had evolved, with Anderson allegedly texting the teen's personal cell phone. 'The messages began as general conversation, but eventually were of a very graphic, sexual nature,' the complaint said. The pair engaged in sexual phone calls, with Anderson allegedly sending 'graphic and sexual' photographs and videos to the boy's device during school hours. RB claimed Anderson would regularly ask him to delete any evidence of their correspondence, the complaint said. The inappropriate relationship continued into the boy's senior year.  RB previously told police that their relationship began in September 2024 with 'sexually explicit text messages.' It allegedly escalated over the course of the year, with Anderson having sent him 'sexually provocative' and 'naked' images in April 2025, the complaint said. She was arrested in May last year after she allegedly sexually abused, performed oral sex and raped RB in her classroom, the lawsuit said. Anderson was charged with three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, one count of lewd or lascivious conduct with a student, two counts of transmission of harmful materials to a minor, and one count of unlawful use of a two-way communication device. She pleaded guilty to all counts and was sentenced to 30 months in the Florida State Prison, followed by 24 months of community service and 10 years of probation. A mugshot of Anderson taken at the time of her arrest in June 2025. She is being sued by her victim, who says that Anderson's guilty pleas strengthen his civil lawsuit Anderson was also ordered to sign the sex offenders' register.   RB is suing Anderson for damages of $100,000 for emotional distress and sexual battery.  The civil complaint, citing Anderson's own guilty plea, accused her of engaging in sexual activity with the teen at the school on three separate occasions.  It also accused her of having 'demonstrated predatory behavior and a blatant disregard for child safety.' The teen is also suing the school board for commercial negligence and seeking $50,000 in damages. He alleges the school board 'knew or should have known of the risk of teacher-on-student sexual misconduct' due to the August 2024 arrest of social studies teacher David Patrick Coffey. Coffey was terminated from his position at the school after being charged with unlawful use of a two-way communication device, two counts of sexual battery, and five counts of unlawful sexual activity with a separate minor student. He was convicted of the eight felony counts and sentenced to 15 years in prison.  The Hillsborough County School Board declined the Daily Mail's request for comment, citing 'pending litigation.' The district has not yet filed a response to the complaint. Meanwhile, Brooke Anderson languishes in prison, edging ever closer towards a freedom that could see her finances severely depleted by her victim when she finally re-enters society.  Anderson does not appear to have retained an attorney for the civil case. Her criminal lawyer did not reply to the Daily Mail's request for comment.
