Michael Reaves / Getty Images Share full article2DALLAS — Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan acknowledged Sunday that the franchise has arrived at a “pivot point” and he’s unsure if he wants to be back in Chicago next season. Donovan said he plans to sit down with team president and CEO Michael Reinsdorf sometime in the coming week. “I love being in Chicago and the organization and everything about it,” Donovan said before the team’s regular-season finale in Dallas. “But we’re at this pivot point right now where everything has changed. To me, sit down and have a conversation — that’s really what I want to do. Find out where we’re all at on this. And how we’re going to move forward.” Last week, the Bulls fired executive vice president of basketball operations Artūras Karnišovas and general manager Marc Eversley. In a news conference explaining the decision, Reinsdorf expressed support for Donovan to continue coaching the Bulls. “Michael said he wants to build something that’s sustainable,” Donovan said. “I agree with that. It needs to be something that’s going to be long-term.” Last week, when asked about the Bulls’ search for a new front office, Reinsdorf said, “If Billy wants to be our coach, and someone’s not interested in that, then they’re probably not the right candidate for us.” In an email responding to follow-up questions from The Athletic, Reinsdorf wrote that Donovan’s status won’t be taking “precedence in the process.” Additionally, Donovan said his decision would not be influenced by other NBA openings. “I’m committed here to Chicago,” Donovan said. “I love Chicago. It’s not going to be anything about that at all. There were different opportunities that were up in the last couple years, and I just didn’t even entertain or look at (them), because I didn’t feel like it was right. I’m going to try to be where my feet are planted. I’m going to stay there and stay committed to where I’m at.” Donovan has posted a 226-255 record in six seasons as the Bulls’ coach. He was a candidate for the opening at the University of North Carolina this spring before the school hired Michael Malone. Spot the pattern.
