LARKANA: The second phase of provincial government’s Solar Home Systems (SHS) project will be inaugurated by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday, it is learnt.

The inauguration ceremony will be held at Jinnah Bagh in Larkana. It will be attended by lawmakers, officials, media representatives and deserving beneficiaries of the project. The proceedings will go live for viewers in all districts of Larkana division, sources said.

A preliminary online meeting was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Syed Asif Haider Shah to finalise arrangements for the programme.

Energy Secretary Shahab Qamar briefed the participants about the project and its inauguration ceremony. The meeting was attended by commissioners of Larkana and Sukkur divisions as well as deputy commissioners of Larkana Qambar-Shahdadkot, Shikarpur and Khairpur on video link.

Under the project, 275,000 solar energy systems will be distributed among deserving households across Sindh

Talking to Dawn, Larkana DC Tariq Manzoor Chandio said that over the next 20 months, 10,000 solar home systems will be installed across Larkana district alone.

The project is being implemented by the NRTC in partnership with the Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO), which will execute it.

The beneficiaries of the project will be identified through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) database. Applications will be invited from eligible households.

The initiative is aimed at providing clean and sustainable energy to rural communities.
