Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, on Wednesday commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's leadership and policy direction, particularly in navigating the country through a complex and uncertain regional environment amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. The meeting came a day after the prime minister publicly offered Pakistan as a venue for US-Iran peace talks, an offer that received an extraordinary boost when President Donald Trump reposted it on his Truth Social platform, a move widely seen in Islamabad as Washington's tacit endorsement of Pakistan's emerging role as a mediator. According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's office today, PM Shehbaz met Bilawal and his delegation, during which the prime minister underscored Pakistan’s active diplomatic outreach for global peace. Bilawal also expressed support for the government’s approach to dealing with potential risks arising from the ongoing conflict scenario. He stressed that safeguarding national interests while contributing to global peace remained a key priority of his government. The two leaders also exchanged views on political developments and national issues of importance. Discussions included Pakistan’s internal and external security environment, as well as the country's preparedness to tackle potential challenges arising from escalating tensions in the Gulf region.
