Rabat – Moroccan midfielder Bilal Nadir is at a crossroad in his career, with several La Liga clubs reportedly monitoring his situation ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window.

Following a challenging period at Olympique de Marseille (OM), the 22-year-old is expected to seek a move, either on loan or permanently, to secure the consistent playing time his development requires.

According to reports from Africafoot and Foot Mercato, Marseille are increasingly open to his departure. While the club previously viewed Nadir as a long-term prospect, a combination of tactical shifts under coaching changes and his recovery from past injuries has left him outside the first-team plans.

Strategic move for career reset

Nadir’s recent trajectory has been heavily impacted by a serious ACL injury sustained in early 2024. Although he successfully returned to the pitch for the 2025-2026 campaign, he has struggled to nail down a starting spot in a crowded Marseille midfield.

As of April, his contractual situation has become a major talking point. With his current deal set to expire in June, Marseille faces a choice: negotiate a last-minute extension followed by a loan, or risk losing the Moroccan international on a free transfer. Reports suggest that French rivals Strasbourg and Spanish giants Sevilla have joined the race, looking to capitalize on this uncertainty.

2025-2026 season performance

During the 2025-2026 campaign, Nadir has served primarily as an impactful rotational player. Across all competitions, he has appeared in roughly 27 to 28 matches, though many of these were brief cameos from the bench. In Ligue 1 specifically, he has clocked approximately 600 minutes over 20 games, maintaining a high passing accuracy of 92% and contributing 4 assists. His most notable offensive contribution came in the Coupe de France, where he recorded his first senior goal of the season

Contract uncertainty and Spanish interest

The urgency of the situation is fueled by Nadir’s contract status, which is currently set to expire on June 30. This allows him to negotiate a free transfer, a prospect that has put high-profile Spanish clubs on high alert. Villarreal CF is reportedly in advanced talks, having identified Nadir’s technical, left-footed profile as a perfect fit for their possession-based tactical system.

Beyond Spain, French side OGC Nice, where Nadir was originally developed, is also considering a move to bring the midfielder back to his roots. As the season concludes, the coming weeks will determine whether Marseille can convince him to sign a renewal or if he will depart the Stade Vélodrome as a free agent.
