But celebrations were tainted on Saturday, as thousands of police officers were deployed to curb unrest that disrupted public services and left 219 people injured. Eight people were in a serious condition following clashes between football fans and police, France's Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said. French authorities said that 780 people were arrested in Paris after clashes.
