Published: 23:38, 17 July 2026 | Updated: 23:43, 17 July 2026 A beloved radio DJ announced live on the air how a chilling discovery while she was in her home sauna led her to be diagnosed with cancer for the second time. Jodi Brothers revealed the heartbreaking news to fans on Wednesday during her radio show Mornings with Jodi and Bender, which broadcasts in the Seattle, Washington area. The 50-year-old mother of one tried her best to fight back tears as she announced that she has breast cancer after beating colon cancer just three years ago. 'I have breast cancer, which is still so hard to say even though it's been months of dealing with it,' said Brothers, as she started to get choked up with tears. She explained how she went to the doctor after she discovered a lump in her breast. 'What happened was back in April during spring break, I was sitting in my sauna, which I know sounds very bougie, but I have one. I sit in it often,' said the show host. Brothers said that while often sitting inside the sauna, she would perform breast health checks and added that she would annually get a mammogram. 'And I just started sort of doing them when I sat in the sauna, and I found something that definitely did not belong,' she said. Jodi Brothers, 50, announced on Wednesday during her radio show Mornings with Jodi and Bender that she was diagnosed with breast cancer Brothers (left) was visibly emotional as she described how she was given her diagnosis after a series of evaluation, which all started after she made the discovery on her own while in her home sauna 'And the next day I saw my doctor, and she said, "I definitely feel that too, but it's probably nothing. You'll make an appointment, and you'll go get an ultrasound." So two weeks later I had that appointment.' She described how the two weeks of waiting felt like an eternity. She then got the ultrasound, which prompted an MRI, but was told she would have to wait an additional two weeks. 'If you thought the first two weeks waiting was bad, try this two weeks,' said Brothers. After waiting, doctors finally said that the MRI showed concerning results, leading her to then get a biopsy, which took another two weeks. 'And if you thought that waiting for the MRI two weeks was bad, let me introduce you to waiting for the biopsy,' she joked. 'The biopsy results were invasive ductal carcinoma, which is the most basic bee of all the breast cancers, and I have not one but two little masses in there.' She is now scheduled to undergo a double mastectomy surgery with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center at the end of July. 'I can't say how much I'm looking forward to getting this surgery and getting it over with just because it feels like this has been the longest couple of months of my life,' Brothers added. The radio host said she was at her home sauna where she regularly performs self-examinations on her breast when she found a lump (Brothers' home pictured) She previously battled colon cancer three years earlier, which she also announced on her show (Pictured with her co-host Bender Cunningham) Despite being in tears, she tried to find the funny in the situation, jokingly adding that after the surgery she would be much more aerodynamic. She also said that anyone who wants a hug should get one soon, as it will be some time before she can give them out again while she recovers. Brothers said she will find out a week after the surgery if she needs any treatment following the procedure. 'Sometimes a cancer diagnosis is scary, and this one has scared the bejesus out of me because you start going, "Oh my God, is it everywhere in me? Like, am I just riddled with it?"' she added. 'But I have a great team at Fred Hutch, and they're going to take care of me, and this surgery is hopefully going to take care of it.' The show host noted that her friends, family, fans and co-host have been wonderful with showing their support. Her fans gave hundreds of heartfelt messages following the diagnosis online and wishing her well as she battles her cancer. 'Jodi, you are so loved by all of us. Know that our support and prayers are with you every step of the way. My heart goes out to you, and I know you are so strong that you will prevail in all things,' one user wrote on Facebook. 'Praying that your doctors do the best job possible by you and that Josh will step up his game and be helpful to you in your healing. Sending so much love and big big hugs to you. Thank you for all the laughs, and can't wait till you return. Mornings won't be the same without you,' another wrote. 'Sending you lots of love and prayers,' one fan added. 'You are beautiful inside and out. You are strong! 'My best friend went through this eight years ago. She is cancer-free. No radiation or chemo. She had a double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery.' Brothers noted that she would be absent from the show for some time but hopes to return by the end of the summer.المصدر: Daily Mail | Source: Daily Mail
