By EMMA RICHTER, US SENIOR NEWS REPORTER Published: 16:42, 13 May 2026 | Updated: 16:49, 13 May 2026 A Georgia dentist will spend the rest of her life behind bars after she murdered her boyfriend inside their $1.5 million home during a deranged meltdown.  Suzanne Mericle, 62, learned her fate on Monday after she was arrested for fatally shooting her boyfriend, James David Barron, 68, in March 2025 through a locked bedroom door while in a fit of 'jealous rage,' Hall County Superior Court Judge John Breakfield said.  Barron, who was the vice president of business consulting firm PM Technologies, was pronounced dead at their home in Gainesville, about an hour from Atlanta, after being shot in the torso.  According to evidence presented during Mericle's trial, she admitted to pulling the trigger on March 8 of last year after she and Barron got into an argument, The Brunswick News reported.  The once prominent and wealthy dentist, who ran her own practice in St. Simons Island, was found guilty of one count of felony murder, aggravated assault, criminal damage in the first degree, and tampering with evidence in March of this year.  She will serve the rest of her life in prison with the possibility of parole in 30 years, when Mericle will be 93.  Her new home is a far cry from her lavish four-bedroom, five-bathroom mansion that sits on Lake Lanier. The property is currently up for sale.  Her five-star business, Mericle Dentistry, is now listed as permanently closed.  Suzanne Mericle was sentenced to life in prison on Monday after she fatally shot her boyfriend, James David Barron, through a bedroom door at their $1.5 million home in Gainesville, Georgia, on March 8, 2025 Barron (far right) is seen with his two sons, Colt and Evan. The two of them shared emotional victim impact statements before their dad's murderer was sentenced The couple lived in a beautiful 3,900 square foot home on Bayridge Drive, which included four beds and five baths Before Mericle was sentenced, Barron's heartbroken family shared emotional victim impact statements.  'The defense teams should be ashamed of how you tried to tarnish my father's good name, and I will never forgive you for that,' Colt Barron, one of the victim's sons, said in court.  Mericle's defense team argued that Barron had allegedly assaulted his girlfriend that night, and she aimed the gun at the door to unlock it and reach for her cellphone During her trial, Mericle's defense team argued that Barron had allegedly assaulted his girlfriend that night, and she aimed the gun at the door to unlock it and reach for her cellphone, according to the Gainesville Times.  Judge Breakfield ultimately denied their motion.  'Suzanne murdered my father and she needs to be held accountable for her actions,' Colt continued through tears. Evan Barron, the victim's other son, also delivered a victim impact statement at Mericle's sentencing hearing.  'It's been a year of waiting for this moment, and we've had time to be sad, but I look around at the people that are here with us now, and we're just angry,' Evan said, according to Court TV.  'I’ve grown empty and tired of holding my head high without some relief of letting you know how angry I am that you took my father away from me. Beth Barron, the victim's ex-wife, openly disputed the defense's argument that her former partner was argumentative during her statement After news of her arrest broke, Mericle's patients feared she lived a 'double life' as she owned another home near her practice in St. Simons Island 'You should be ashamed of yourself….You smeared him with lies. You’ve tried to embarrass me, embarrass my family, embarrass my business. You took him from us and you’ve attempted to take down his good name with you, and it’s pathetic,' Evan added.  Beth Barron, the victim's ex-wife, openly disputed the defense's argument that her former partner was argumentative.  'He did not like confrontation and would just try to leave the situation,' Beth, who was married to Barron for 22 years, told the court.  She added: 'On March 8, he was taken from us, killed in the worst way, shot behind a locked door by a jealous, selfish, crazed person.  'Suzanne not only took his life but tried to defile his character during the trial in the most vulgar way possible.'  According to a 2023 Facebook post on her business page, Mericle appeared to have experience with firearms.  The now convicted felon was seen with a tight grip on a handgun while at a shooting range.  'Practice shooting with one of the best instructors Bill Morgan!! - Patient , Knowledgable and a gentleman … and makes it fun!! @ Bill Morgan! Best day!! Dr. Mericle and her hobbies…,' she wrote.  According to a 2023 Facebook post on her business page, Mericle appeared to have experience with firearms Her five-star business, Mericle Dentistry, is now listed as permanently closed online The disgraced dentist ended the post with two hashtags: #happygirl #workhardplayharder'.  After news of her arrest broke, Mericle's patients feared she lived a 'double life' as he owned another home near her practice in St. Simons Island, an idyllic coastal enclave about 83 miles south of Savannah.  Betty Newman, a client of Mericle, said she is still in shock after hearing the allegations. 'She had to be living a double life,' she wrote on the HSCO Facebook Page. 'She is/was my kids dentist. Literally had an appointment this Monday the 10th. Wild!' Mericle and her office were well known in the area, according to employees of nearby businesses. 'That's crazy and out of this world, and for a dentist at that,' local employee, Frankie Johnson, previously told Action Jax News. Judge Breakfield said that if Mericle wishes to file a motion requesting a new trial, he will hear her arguments on October 29.  The comments below have not been moderated.
