Bell Green Nursery on lockdown as 'man with knives' enters family hub

A man has been arrested after a nursery was placed on lockdown following reports of an individual brandishing knives. Police were called to Roseberry Avenue in Coventry at around 10:40am yesterday (28 May). The man was subsequently detained by officers inside the Park Edge Family Hub, where the Bell Green Nursery is located. Medics attended the scene and discovered that the man had sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to University Hospital Coventry (UHCW) for treatment, CoventryLive reports. No other injuries were reported during the incident, and the knives were successfully recovered. Police have since confirmed that the man has been released from UHCW and taken into custody for questioning. A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We responded to reports of a man with knives on Roseberry Avenue in Coventry at around 10.40am yesterday (May 28). “He went into a nearby building and was arrested a short time later on suspicion of possessing a bladed article. No one was injured, and the knives were recovered.” West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to an incident at an address on Roseberry Avenue in Coventry at 11.37am. Crews found a man who they treated for serious injuries before he was conveyed to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.” A spokesman for Bell Green Nursery said: “We would like to stress that at no point did the individual enter the nursery or have any contact with any of the children, staff, or families within our setting. “As a precaution, our team followed all appropriate safeguarding and lockdown procedures, and children remained safe and well throughout. Parents were informed of the situation, which was resolved within approximately 40 minutes. “We are incredibly proud of our staff for their professionalism and calm response, and we would like to thank parents for their understanding and cooperation during the incident. Thank you for your continued support.”
