"Belçika ile Türkiye arasında uzun süredir devam eden bir ortaklık var." diyen Prevot, iki ülke arasındaki ilişkilerle ilgili şunları söyledi: "Osmanlı İmparatorluğu ile ilk Dostluk Antlaşması 1838'de imzalandı yani çok uzun zaman önceydi ve bu da Belçika'nın diğer birçok Avrupa ülkelerinden çok önce Sultan'ın nezdinde İstanbul'da temsil edildiği anlamına geliyor. Karşılıklı ticaretin güçlendirilmesi gerektiğini vurgulayan Prevot, "Elbette Türk şirketlerinin Belçika'ya daha fazla yatırım yapması gerekiyor ancak aynı zamanda Belçika ortaklıkları sayesinde Türkiye'nin ekonomik yapısını güçlendirme fırsatlarını da belirlememiz gerekiyor. Bu durum özellikle biyofarmasötik sektöründe geçerli. Belçika'da gerçekten dünya çapında bir deneyim havuzumuz var." ifadelerini kullandı. Prevot, savunma alanındaki işbirliğiyle ilgili, "Türkiye'nin savunma sanayisinde yüzde 300 oranında büyüdüğünü biliyoruz. Bu, gerçekten önemli." dedi. 20 yıl öncesine göre oldukça farklı bir dünyada yaşandığının ve iş fırsatlarını güçlendirmenin gerçekten önemli olduğunun altını çizen Prevot, "Ayrıca, stratejik öneme sahip olan tarama (dredging) sektörü gibi, liman yönetimi için de yeni fırsatlar yaratmak istiyoruz. Elbette enerji akışı, tahıl akışı konularında da öyle. Türkiye, açık deniz endüstrisine büyük yatırımlar yapmaya karar verdi ve biz de Kuzey Denizi'nde birçok yatırım öngörüyoruz. Belçika, bu sektörde Avrupa'nın liderlerinden biri. Dolayısıyla dijital varlıklarımızı da güçlendirmek için çeşitli fırsatların olduğunu düşünüyoruz." şeklinde konuştu. Prevot, kurumsal işbirliğinin önemine dikkati çekerek, şunları kaydetti: "Belçika-Lüksemburg Ekonomik Birliği ile Türkiye arasında 1989 yılından kalma yani uzun zaman önceye dayanan anlaşmayı modernize etmek gibi kurumsal bir yeniden yapılanma da gerekiyor. 40 yıl geçti, bu nedenle iki ülke arasındaki iş yapma biçimini de organize etmek gerçekten önemli. 2026'nın Türkiye'sini de hesaba katmak gerekiyor çünkü Belçika'nın Türkiye'ye ekonomik bir heyetle son ziyareti 14 yıl önceydi ancak 2012'nin Türkiye'si bugünkü Türkiye'den oldukça farklı. Yoksulluk oranı yarıya indi, Türkiye'nin yaşam kalitesi standartları 20 yıl öncesine kıyasla gerçekten çok daha yüksek. Ayrıca Türkiye, jeopolitik açıdan her zamankinden daha stratejik bir aktör. Dolayısıyla farklı sanayi sektörlerinin tedarik zincirinden Avrupa'nın küresel güvenlik mimarisine kadar uzanan tüm bu zorlukların Türkiye ile birlikte ele alınması gerçekten çok önemli. Türkiye olmadan Avrupa'nın güvenlik mimarisi hakkında konuşmanın bir yolu yok." Prevot, Türkiye'nin AB tarafından Rusya ve Çin gibi ülkelerle aynı kategoride görülüp görülmeyeceğiyle ilgili, "Türkiye'yi Rusya ve Çin ile aynı cümlede kullanmak biraz garip. Türkiye, bir NATO müttefiki. Ayrıca AB'ye katılım için aday ülkelerden biri. Dolayısıyla elbette Türkiye'nin 'kısıtlanması' veya 'sınırlandırılması' gerekmiyor. Türkiye ile stratejik bir ortak olarak çalışmalıyız." değerlendirmesinde bulundu. AB ile Türkiye arasındaki Gümrük Birliği'nin güncellenmesi gerektiğine işaret eden Prevot, "1996'da imzalandığında sadece sanayi mallarına odaklanmıştı, hizmetleri, tarımı, modern uyuşmazlık çözümlerini ve benzerlerini dikkate almamıştı. Dolayısıyla elbette böyle bir birliği modernize etmemiz gerekiyor çünkü 2026'nın ortak ekonomik zorluklarını 30 yıl öncesinin çerçevesiyle ele alamayız." dedi. Prevot, güvenlik ve savunma alanında Türkiye ile işbirliğinin vazgeçilmez olduğunu vurgulayarak, şunları dile getirdi: "Türkiye, gerçekten stratejik bir ortak. Bunu örneğin Ukrayna'yı ele alırken bazı arabuluculuk süreçlerinin başlatıldığını ve İstanbul'da da devam ettiğini gördük. Türkiye'de de İran'da ve çevresinde olup bitenlerin uluslararası hukuka aykırı olduğu düşünülüyor ve Türkiye, kurallara dayalı bir düzene saygı duymanın önemini yüksek sesle hatırlatıyor. Dolayısıyla çok taraflılığın savunulması, toprak bütünlüğüne saygı ve bir NATO müttefiki olarak Türkiye'nin de özel bir sorumluluğu var. Türkiye, İttifak'ın güneydoğu kanadının koruyucusu. Bu nedenle, Türkiye'nin tüm stratejik varlıklarının küresel resmine sahip olmak gerçekten önemli. Sadece ekonomik boyutta değil aynı zamanda tüm kıtanın güvenliği için de." Ekonomik misyonun her iki taraf için de birçok fırsat sunduğunu belirten Prevot, ziyaret öncesinde Türk iş dünyasına vermek istediği mesajı şöyle paylaştı: "Belçika, yüz ölçümü bakımından küçük bir ülke olmasına rağmen Avrupa kurumları için büyük bir etkiye sahip. Aynı zamanda kurucu üyelerinden biriyiz. Deniz ve hava yoluyla çok iyi bağlantılarımız var. Örneğin Liege Havalimanı'nı veya Avrupa'nın ikinci büyük limanı olan Anvers-Brugge Limanı'nı düşünün. Avrupa pazarına açılan en büyük kapılardan biri olan Türkiye'ye gerçekten de bu fırsatı sunuyoruz." Prevot, Belçika'nın geçen yıl 12 milyar avroluk ticaret hacmine ulaştığını dile getirerek, "Bu, çok şey ifade ediyor ancak aynı zamanda işbirliği seviyesini artırmak için yeni fırsatlar da sunuyor. Her zamankinden 'daha çok ortağız'. Kesinlikle rakip değiliz. Birlikte daha güçlü olmak için kendi ekonomik omurgalarımızı belirlememiz veya güçlendirmemiz gerekiyor. İşte asıl zihniyet bu. İş yapmak için bütçe açık. Eminim ki Türk yatırımcılar yarı iletkenler, savunma sektöründeki bazı bileşenler, havacılık sektörü, lojistik sektörü, biyofarmasötik sektörü, enerji dönüşümü ve yeşil dönüşüm, örneğin hidrojen gibi nişleri belirleyebilecektir. Sunabileceğimiz çok şey var." mesajını paylaştı. Prevot, Anadolu Ajansının (AA) İsrail'in Gazze'ye yönelik saldırılarında beyaz fosfor kullanması başta olmak üzere işlediği savaş suçlarına yönelik belge niteliğindeki fotoğrafların yer aldığı "Kanıt" kitabını inceledi.⁠ AA Genel Müdürlüğü adına kendisine hediye edilen kitap için teşekkür eden Prevot, "Sahadaki durum kesinlikle kabul edilemez." dedi. Prevot, ülkesinin Güney Afrika’nın İsrail’e karşı Uluslararası Adalet Divanında açtığı Gazze’de soykırım işlendiği iddiasına ilişkin davaya destek verdiğini hatırlattı. Belçika’nın Türkiye’ye yönelik ekonomik misyonu, 10-14 Mayıs tarihlerinde gerçekleştirilecek. Program kapsamında heyet, 10, 11 ve 12 Mayıs’ta İstanbul’da, 13 ve 14 Mayıs’ta da Ankara’da temaslarda bulunacak. Kraliçe Mathilde başkanlığındaki heyette Dışişleri Bakanı Maxime Prevot, Savunma Bakanı Theo Francken, Brüksel Başkent Bölgesi Başbakanı Boris Dillies, Flaman Bölgesi Başbakanı Matthias Diependaele ve Valon Bölgesi Ekonomi Bakanı Pierre-Yves Jeholet de yer alacak. Misyona yaklaşık 250 iş insanının da aralarında bulunduğu 450 kişilik heyetin katılması bekleniyor. Misyon kapsamında Belçikalı ile Türk şirketler arasında 39 anlaşmanın imzalanması öngörülüyor, iki ülke hükümetleri arasında savunma ve sosyal güvenlik alanlarında da siyasi anlaşmaların hayata geçirilmesi planlanıyor.
