The proud parents of darts ace Beau Greaves have told how she picked her first set of arrows aged 10 - and was defeating world champions by 15. The rising star - nicknamed ‘Beau ‘n’ Arrow’ - became the first woman to win a PDC ranking title by defeating Michael Smith 8-7 in the Player’s Championship 11 final in Milton Keynes on Monday. She checked out with a 142 in the deciding leg to seal an amazing victory against the former world champ - and said: “I’ve had a great year, but I never thought I’d win one of these, never ever.” Now her delighted mum and dad, Tracy and David, have told how she started playing at their home in Doncaster, South Yorks, while still at primary school. She spotted older brother Taylor, seven years her senior, playing in his bedroom and picked up the big brass darts and stunned him with her aim. Taylor, also a darts player, raced downstairs to tell his parents what he had just witnessed. David said at first they refused to believe him - but then they watched her play: “She could hit a sixpence with those big brass darts. I am so chuffed for her. I expected her to get this far. It was only a matter of time. It has just happened sooner than expected. “I tried to tell her to practice but she hardly ever does. She practices for 15 minutes a day and maybe an hour with a competition coming up. She says ‘Dad I have been practising for 12 years’. She is a natural.” He told how Beau was soon competing in a local pub league - and by 15 was beating much older world champions such as Lisa Ashton, and Anastasia Dobromyslova. Tracy, 58, said: “She only got her tour card in January. She is now playing the best male players in the world. It’s incredible.” They said while a student at school Beau “never told a soul” about her darts career even though she was already making a name for herself, first in local pub leagues then at world championship level. It was only when she was picked to represent England her teachers were stunned to be told about her talent. They said Beau, the youngest of six, tends to shun TV interviews. “At. home you cannot shut up. But she does not like to be in the spotlight and never used to talk at school.” Her darts career had led to tours all over Europe as well as Australia and most recently Japan. Retired window cleaner David, 68, revealed her first pro set of darts were designed by English player Mervyn King, -who she recently beat in a tournament, although she now designs her own with long points. On her run to the Milton Keynes final Beau - already a three times WDF Women’s World Champion - also defeated two more ex-world champions, Rob Cross 6-5 in the quarter-finals and Gary Anderson 7-1 in the semi-finals. After lifting the title she said: “Today I played really well. I'm so happy, I can't even describe the way I feel. I feel so proud of myself. I beat Gary Anderson - I can't believe it. Even beating Michael - I’m beating players I watched growing up. Hopefully I can kick on and keep doing it. “Fighting back tears she said: “I was up a fair few legs and I started to think about it and it caught up to me. I never thought that I'd come in here today and win this. I know I've got the ability to do so, and I know I’ve got the talent for it, but to play the players I’m playing... I beat Gary Anderson - I couldn't believe it! I don’t know what's happening. “Aside from winning Lakeside [three-time WDF women's world darts champion], this is my best ever achievement, and hopefully I can kick on now and do well on the television. I'm absolutely chuffed!”
