Bay Bridge's full brother set for first start at Windsor

All eyes will be on Windsor at 6.50pm when Bay Bridge's brother Castlemont makes his first start in the Godolphin blue for Charlie Appleby.

Charlie Appleby unveils Bay Bridge's full brother Castlemont this evening at Windsor in the Join Fitzdares For A Personal Service Maiden Stakes.

The already-gelded son of New Bay was purchased for 375,000 guineas as a yearling - which is no surprise given the pedigree on show. His brother Bay Bridge was rated 122 at his peak winning and even downed the great Baaeed in his 2022 Champion Stakes swansong. If he is anything like his sibling, we could have another top-class animal on our hands.

Lava Stream's half brother Treble Bass also debuts for Charlie Appleby and could be anything in the second-string Godolphin colours. Ray Dawson takes the ride on this son of Sea The Stars, who - like his stablemate - has been gelded.

Of those with experience, Lord d'Or sets the standard on form, having finished second behind Wood Ditton winner Portcullis at York in May. One that should be monitored in the betting is the Amo Racing-owned Cool Girl. This Pinatubo filly - who cost €100,000, is partnered with the in-form David Egan for Charlie Johnston.

2.28 Vichy - Saint Martin and Lady Mara clash in French feature

Saint Martin and Lady Mara clash in the Listed Prix Frédéric de Lagrange this afternoon at Vichy.

Saint Martin comes here with three wins from seven starts to his name, which have all been notched this year. After two wins at Cagnes-Sur-Mer, Christophe Escuder's colt claimed Listed honours in the Prix Francois, beating Mirik from the Graffard stable.

Graffard's representative here is Lady Mara, who will be ridden by Mickael Barzalona. She comes here off the back of finishing fourth in the Group 2 Premio Oaks d'Italia Tattersalls at San Siro. She finished one place in front of Andrew Balding's Prizeland (rated 94) - which gives the form some familiarity.

Yann Barberot saddles the unbeaten gelding Mazzala, who won at Saint-Cloud on debut before following that up with a second success at Lyon next time out. This son of Frankel must warrant respect under the mercurial Maxime Guyon.

7.50 Windsor - Exciting Sunshine Star returns for the Gosdens

Sunshine Star - an exciting looking filly for the Gosdens and Lady Bamford - returns to the track tonight for the British Stallion Studs EBF Support The Big Bear Voyage Fillies' Handicap.

A half-sister to Oaks winner Soul Sister, she was entered in the Ribblesdale but was withdrawn - which could be an indicator of just how highly she is thought of at Clarehaven. This three-year-old was sent off an 8/11 favourite in a nice novice at Sandown in April, but was beaten by the talented Felicitas. Ed Walker's filly then franked the form, finishing a close second in the Musidora. Subsequently, Sunshine Star took a drop in grade and bolted up at Lingfield at the beginning of June. With another month run on her back, she should take all the beating here.

Capichera is the nearest threat, having bought up her first win at Pontefract last month. This horse showed a good level of form in behind So Regal at Newmarket on her first start of the year and could well progress further today.

In Windsor's opening A1R Services Ltd Nursery Handicap (5.50pm), previous winners Arabica Queen and Theheatison look the key players having tasted success when last seen. El Lambo was not suited by an ease in the ground on Oaks day at Epsom but should fare better back on a sounder surface.

Later on the card, the Fitzdares Sprint Series Handicap (7.20pm) sees eight-time course scorer Lequinto look to contend with a 5lb rise in the weights following his upturn in form. Amazonian Dream has been knocking on the door of late and could finally hit the target having not been penalised by the handicapper for back-to-back runner-up efforts.
