ABD'li iki yetkili, Başkan Donald Trump'ın Hürmüz Boğazı'nda mahsur kalan gemilerin geçişine yönelik yardım girişimi olarak nitelendirilen Özgürlük Projesi'nde "geri adım atması" ve İran ile varılan geçici ateşkesin çökmesini önleme kararının bu görüşmelerdeki ilerlemeye bağlı olduğunu ileri sürdü. Haberde, mevcut haliyle mutabakat zaptının, bölgedeki savaşa son verilmesi ve Hürmüz Boğazı'nın açılması, İran'ın nükleer programının sınırlandırılması ve ABD yaptırımlarının kaldırılması için ayrıntılı anlaşma üzerinde 30 günlük bir müzakere döneminin başlamasını öngördüğü aktarıldı. ABD'li bir yetkili, söz konusu 30 günlük müzakere dönemi süresince İran'ın Hürmüz Boğazı'ndan gemi geçişine getirdiği kısıtlamaların ve ABD'nin deniz ablukasının kademeli olarak kaldırılacağını iddia etti. Bazı kaynaklar, İran'ın nükleer programını askıya almayı öngören moratoryumun süresinin en az 12 yıl olacağını bazıları da 15 yıl olabileceğini öne sürdü. Kaynaklara göre ABD, İran'ın zenginleştirme konusunda herhangi bir ihlalde bulunması durumunda moratoryumun uzatılmasını öngören bir madde eklemek istiyor.
