Cooper Neill / Getty Images Share articleEL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Austin Reaves’ status remains uncertain ahead of Game 5 of the Los Angeles Lakers’ first-round series against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night. Reaves, listed as questionable for Games 3 and 4 of the series in Houston, didn’t play in those games as he continued his recovery from a Grade 2 oblique strain he suffered on April 2. He said he’s feeling good but is still monitoring the injury on a daily basis. “At the first of it, JJ (Redick) specifically was like, ‘You know, you have to be comfortable with your body and what you can do to go out there and help us be successful. And I want to get back out there as fast as I can,” Reaves said. “But like I said, I feel good and trending in the right direction and can’t wait to wake up tomorrow and attack another day.” Reaves didn’t share all the steps he’s taken in recovery, but league sources told The Athletic that his rehabilitation routine has included access to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ facilities, where he has received various recovery treatments. Luka Dončić, who suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain in the same game as Reaves’ oblique injury, has begun on-court movement work but isn’t playing with live contact as of yet. The Lakers lead the Rockets 3-1 after failing to close them out in Houston on Sunday. “Well, you have to kill them. It’s difficult to kill someone. You’ve got to … again, survival instincts says, ‘I want to stay alive,’” Redick said. “And so, you got to be able to kill them. That’s what (it takes).” Reaves is undoubtedly one of the Lakers’ best weapons. He averaged 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists over 51 games this season. He missed a month with a calf strain during the winter before returning on a minutes restriction. In his first five games back, Reaves averaged 20 points on 51.7 percent shooting in 25.4 minutes per game. Since suffering his latest injury, Reaves said he’s been “miserable.” “I can talk and try to lead from being over there, but not really being on the court sucks,” he said. “ … I think we’ve seen in the past when I get injured, I do everything I can to get back as soon as I can with still being safe at the same time.” It’s unclear whether Reaves would face a minutes restriction if he ends up being available on Wednesday. “Everybody’s on the same page here. Everything from the get-go has been a group effort, and the main thing is to get me back out there as fast as I can without putting myself at risk to re-injure myself,” Reaves said. “So everybody’s been extremely positive through this whole process. And we’re all working for one goal, and yeah, we’re doing everything we can.” Spot the pattern. Connect the terms Find the hidden link between sports terms
