Zach Beeker / Getty Images Share full articleThe Dallas Mavericks said they committed “no error” in response to Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick’s claim that the Mavericks scanned the “wrong area” of guard Austin Reaves’ body. Reaves suffered a Grade 2 left oblique injury Thursday in the Lakers’ loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Lakers, who were playing in Dallas two days later, asked the Mavericks’ medical staff to medically image Reaves, Redick said. “I don’t know where the chain of command lies with Dallas imaging, but uh, they scanned the wrong area,” Redick said Saturday. “Not on our end. We made it explicit what was supposed to be scanned, but they scanned the wrong area.” The Mavericks said in an official statement that they didn’t make a mistake administering an MRI on Reaves. “Our medical team followed standard imaging protocols based on the information provided at the time,” the Mavericks said. “There was no error in the scan performed.” Reaves’ injury occurred in the first half of the Lakers’ loss to the Thunder last week. Reaves was visibly playing through discomfort before he exited that game for good in the third quarter. He is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks, The Athletic’s Dan Woike reported. In that same game in Oklahoma City, Lakers star Luka Dončić suffered a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. Doncic on Sunday flew to Spain to receive treatment on his hamstring in the hopes of returning during the postseason. The Lakers are in fourth place in the Western Conference with less than a week remaining in the regular season. The Mavericks beat the Lakers 134-128 on Sunday — snapping a 14-game home losing streak — behind rookie forward Cooper Flagg, who scored 45 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished nine assists.
