Published: 23:42, 14 June 2026 | Updated: 23:42, 14 June 2026 A woman who witnessed the aftermath of a horrific shark attack at Sydney's Coogee Beach has slammed bystanders who turned the emergency into a social media spectacle while the victim fought for her life. The woman, in her 30s, suffered devastating injuries to her arm and leg after being attacked just 30 metres from shore on Saturday morning. As lifeguards and beachgoers rushed to help her, one witness, Kylie Bee, said she was stunned to see a man allegedly live-streaming the rescue, while others appeared more interested in getting on television than showing concern for the victim. 'It was so disappointing to witness the lack of humanity when someone is fighting for their life,' Ms Bee said. The witness described how beachgoers were holding up towels to protect the injured woman's dignity as first aid was being administered, when a man allegedly walked past, live-streaming the scene. 'When lifeguards and beachgoers were assisting in the rescue and protecting this woman's dignity by holding up towels as they were applying first aid, there was a man who decided to walk past and stream the whole thing live. 'I took it upon myself to address the man, and laid into him, and he denied the whole thing while still live-streaming. 'If I were that woman receiving first aid from a shark attack, in a bathing suit, the last thing I would want is to have it published on the internet. Kylie Bee (pictured) said she was stunned to see a man allegedly live-streaming the rescue All of Sydney's eastern beaches were closed on Sunday after a shark attack at Coogee 'I'm not going to lose faith in humanity - we can all play a part in contributing to it. 'I wish I took a photo of this man, but I was so worked up. He did walk away after this, but it's just the sheer audacity.' That was not the only behaviour that upset the witness. 'Then I hear a couple of children with an adult: 'I better get on TV,' to which the other responded, "Oh, you definitely will." 'At this point I kept my mouth shut, but I wish I'd said - how about sending prayers or good thoughts to the woman affected, for healing and recovery, instead of making it about yourself? 'Teach your child empathy and respect, my goodness. 'It's taught me, while I can't control others, I can certainly contribute to what I see is lacking in humanity.' The victim was airlifted to St Vincent's Hospital after being brought from the water by an off-duty lifeguard.  A great white is though responsible for the latest shark attack off the Sydney coast  Surf Life Saving NSW said she was semi-conscious and breathing when transported for treatment. She remains in hospital as of Sunday morning. The incident has prompted renewed calls from NSW independent MP Rod Roberts for shark culls around heavily populated beaches. 'We're not talking about culling out on the Great Barrier Reef, just the popular swimming areas around Sydney,' Mr Roberts said. Marine experts and conservationists, however, have warned that culling is neither a sustainable nor scientifically supported solution to reducing shark attacks. Footage captured by the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter showed a large shark swimming close to shore after the attack. The animal is believed to have been between three and four metres long and may have been a great white shark, a protected species. No comments have so far been submitted.
