By KYLIE STEVENS, SENIOR BREAKING NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA Published: 08:40, 3 July 2026 | Updated: 08:47, 3 July 2026 A Queensland man caught an alleged peeping tom looking through a 13-year-old girl's bedroom window and made a citizen's arrest. Chad Hillier, from the Sunshine Coast, said he spotted a hooded man standing outside a bedroom window in Meridan Plains on Wednesday night. Footage, which Mr Hillier posted on social media but has since removed, showed him confronting the man while his partner filmed from next door. Shouting and several loud bangs could be heard as Mr Hillier, sporting only a pair of shorts, performed a citizen's arrest. '[The] f*** you doing c***… stay there… stay down,' he said before yelling for his partner to phone the police. Mr Hillier detained the man until police arrived and later posed for a photo pinning the alleged prowler to the ground with one hand while kissing the knuckles of the other. 'Peeping Toms exist!' he said in the caption. 'Look out for your neighbours everyone! Girl in the window was only 13.' Chad Hillier has been hailed an Australian hero after confronting an alleged peeping tom The man, pictured being escorted by police, was later charged with two counts of trespass and one count of observations in breach of privacy Mr Hillier launched a range of T-shirts with the now-viral photo of him detaining the man In another video shared by Mr Hillier, which has also been deleted, the alleged prowler can be seen in handcuffs being escorted by police. 'Police were called to a Meridan Plains home following reports of a prowler being detained by a neighbour after he had allegedly been peering into a bedroom window,' a Queensland Police spokesperson told the Daily Mail on Friday. 'The 30-year-old man has been charged with two counts of trespass and one count of observations in breach of privacy.' He is due to appear in Caloundra Magistrates Court on July 30. The Daily Mail has contacted Mr Hillier for comment. Mr Hillier has used his partner's swimwear label to launch a range of T-shirts bearing the slogans 'No more Peeping Toms' and 'Not on my Neighbourhood Watch'. The shirts, which retail for $39.95, have the words 'Citizen Vigilante' written on the back. Mr Hillier has been hailed online as an Australian hero by social media users. 'Aussie legend, you've just set the standard for all men in Australia on how to care for their neighbours,' one commenter said. 'Hope your neighbour realises how lucky they are to have you, mate.' 'The world needs more people like you,' another said. A third added: 'So scary, good on you for intervening and protecting that young girl.'
