Attempted murder arrest after car ploughs into people in Arnold

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a vehicle ploughed into pedestrians in Arnold town centre, leaving one victim with life-threatening injuries. Emergency services were scrambled to Market Place at 1.12am on Saturday (May 9) following reports that a red Vauxhall Astra had struck a group of people. Police say that have established that a confrontation took place in Arnold town centre shortly beforehand. One man remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries, while four other men sustained minor injuries. A dedicated team of detectives spent the day hunting for the suspect before making an arrest on Saturday evening, reports Nottinghamshire Live . The 40 year old man, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, is currently being held in custody. Counter Terrorism Police are not involved in the enquiry. Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, who is heading up the investigation, said: "We have shared this important update with the family of the seriously injured man and they are being supported by specialist officers. "We would ask that people do not speculate about the circumstances around the incident and respect the privacy of those involved. "Our investigation remains ongoing and we are keeping an open mind while these extensive inquiries continue. "We'd like to thank those members of the public who have shared information with us but still want to hear from anyone else who can assist. "Anyone who has relevant dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage should also get in touch and share it with the investigation team. "All road closures in the area have now been lifted and we'd like to thank local people for their understanding." A cordon remained in place in Arnold town centre for approximately 17 hours, with numerous businesses forced to shut for the day following the incident.
