An asylum seeker who tried to rape a woman in an alleyway claimed he did not commit the act due to his "micropenis".

Hossein Mohmoudi, a 35-year-old Iranian asylum seeker, was convicted of attempted rape last week after dismissing his claim that the medical condition rendered him incapable of committing the offence.

Mohmoudi had argued that his allegedly small penis, combined with obesity, made it physically impossible for him to carry out such an attack.

The defence presented various health factors, including low libido attributed to smoking and depression, as evidence that he could not have assaulted the woman.

However, consultant urologist Dr George Fowlis provided testimony contradicting these claims, informing the court that Mohmoudi's anatomy was "normal".

The man was convicted by a jury at Snaresbrook Crown Court and now awaits sentencing next month.

The court heard how Mohmoudi had pursued his victim for approximately an hour as she travelled home following a Christmas celebration in 2024.

He trailed her across a distance of three miles, from Whitechapel to Stratford in east London, at one point boarding the same bus she was on.

CCTV footage presented to jurors showed the defendant shadowing the woman, matching her movements whenever she crossed the road.

The assault itself occurred in an alleyway, obscured from camera view by a gate, but lasted just 27 seconds before a passing cyclist intervened.

The victim told the court the cyclist had "saved" her, while describing how the attack unfolded "so fast you couldn't even think".

Mohmoudi fled the scene when the cyclist appeared.

Mohmoudi had accumulated a substantial criminal record before arriving in Britain, having been convicted twice of assault and on three occasions for criminal damage during his time in Germany.

Prosecutor Christiaan Moll outlined how the defendant had departed Iran in 2014 and subsequently entered Turkey, Greece, Germany and France without legal authorisation before reaching the UK.

He had previously received a 10-month prison sentence for steering a small migrant vessel across the English Channel, after which he claimed asylum and was housed in a London hostel.

Prior to the attempted rape conviction, police had also received a report about Mohmoudi stalking another woman while she was walking her dog.

During cross-examination, prosecutor Mr Moll directly challenged the defendant, asking: "You don't have any respect for the law, do you, Mr Mohmoudi?"

Speaking via an interpreter, Mohmoudi acknowledged he had been using a fetish website the day before the incident, claiming it was "helpful for my English language".

The prosecutor responded: "There are other ways to improve your English..."

Defence barrister David Harounoff contended that the 27-second duration was insufficient time for his client to have attempted rape given his purported medical difficulties.

Evidence also emerged that Mohmoudi had applied to become a sperm donor, with the court learning he had received correspondence from a sperm bank regarding his application.
