Asda launches new fuel saving offer in lifeline to millions of petrol and diesel drivers

Millions of drivers could make significant savings this summer at one of the most popular supermarkets across the UK introduces new fuel offers.

Asda has confirmed that shoppers will be able to save on fuel through its Asda Rewards app for the first time, from today (Monday, July 13).

Under the new measures, people who spend more than £40 or more in a single in-store transaction until the end of the month will receive a 5p per litre fuel coupon.

While the spending offer ends on July 31, motorists will be able to redeem the offer on one fuel purchase at Asda filling stations until Friday, August 7.

The offer will be available at 321 Asda stores and Asda Express stores which offer Asda-branded fuel until the end of the month.

Asda plans to extend the Rewards fuel offer to more locations in the near future, so more drivers can take advantage of lower costs.

The introduction of the offer could make a huge difference to motorists who have struggled with soaring fuel prices since March amid the conflict in the Middle East.

Since the end of February, petrol and diesel prices have increased by more than 20 per cent after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz to all tankers shipping oil around the world.

Fresh data from the RAC shows that motorists are currently paying an average of 150.88p for petrol and 164.66p for diesel, with no changes forecast.

Asda has the joint-cheapest petrol costs of the four largest supermarkets at 147.5p per litre, while one forecourt sells unleaded for less than £1.40.

Similarly, Asda charges almost 4p less per litre compared to the national average at 160.9p.

Rachel Eyre, chief customer officer at Asda, said: "We're making Asda Rewards even more rewarding.

"Asda is more than just a supermarket and we're always looking for new ways to help families save on top of our low prices.

"Through our new Grocery and Fuel Bonus, customers can now unlock savings on fuel alongside their weekly shop, another step in our plans to keep growing Asda Rewards and give our customers even more value every time they shop with us."

Drivers making use of the Asda Rewards offer could save up to £3 on fuel when filling up a standard 60-litre family car.

Once the customer has spent £40 in-store, the coupon will automatically appear in the Asda Rewards app.

Drivers can then head to the filling station and redeem the savings by scanning their Asda Rewards barcode and coupon at the pump or kiosk.

Asda recently launched more personalised Missions in its Asda Rewards scheme to help Britons save more when they shop.

The supermarket also stated that it would expand the fuel rewards to more stores and even extend the bonus beyond the August deadline.
