The current cheapest tickets listed on SeatPick — a ticket search engine marketplace — are £3,000 ($4,020), although the majority of those available are priced between £10,000 to £20,000 ($13,398 – $26,796). This is despite the practice of buying and selling unauthorised Premier League tickets being illegal under United Kingdom law. However, resale websites are able to skirt around this as they are registered overseas, which means they operate outside of the UK’s jurisdiction and can therefore be bought by UK-based buyers. SeatPick, for example, is headquartered in Israel and appears on the Premier League’s official lost of “known unauthorised ticket websites”, along with several of the ticket platforms listing tickets via the comparison site. Arsenal won the Premier League title on Tuesday after Manchester City’s draw to Bournemouth meant they could not catch Mikel Arteta’s side in the last round of fixtures next weekend. In order to prevent Arsenal supporters wanting to be there to witness their team lift the Premier League trophy for the first time in 22 years from the home sections at Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace have introduced several measures. On May 12, the club announced that they have disabled ticket sharing for the fixture, while warning “any supporter found sharing a ticket will be banned from buying a season ticket or membership next season”. Palace have also made clear that tickets for the Arsenal match will only be made available to fans who had a club account before December 1, while stressing “enhanced security checks” with searches will be in place on Sunday afternoon. Despite this, hundreds of tickets for the home sections are being listed on SeatPick, ranging from £944 to over £72,000 ($1,265 – over $96,474), with some VIP packages being advertised for just shy of £65,000 ($87,097). In some cases, however, the tickets listed in both the home and away sections at Selhurst Park do not specify seats and instead highlight a particular area of the ground. Spot the pattern.
