Armed police swarm UK college amid lockdown as people warned 'stay out of sight'

Chaotic scenes are emerging at a college in Swindon this afternoon as dozens of armed police have swarmed the scene. Cops can be seen swirling around the entrance of the Queens Drive campus of New College Swindon, Wiltshire as of 11am today (Friday, April 24). Wiltshire Police said it was called to reports of a 'male with a knife'. Photographs show armed cops on the scene while scores of police cars and unmarked cars are in the area. According to reports, sources from inside the building say they are being kept inside under lockdown conditions. They say they have been instructed to 'stay in place' and 'stay out of sight'. In a post on Facebook , New College Swindon confirmed it was in 'lockdown'. "We are currently managing an incident at our Queens Drive campus. Police are in attendance, and as a precaution, we have initiated a lockdown. "Further updates will be shared here as soon as more information is available," it said. The situation has since scaled down after the force detained two males. It added a knife was not found. A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "We attended New College in Swindon at approximately 11am today following a report a male had been seen with a knife. "Officers attended and two males were detained. Searches were carried out and no knife was found." The college added: "Police have given the all-clear, and the lockdown has been lifted. "Officers attended our Queens Drive campus following a report that a male had been seen with a knife. Two males were detained, and searches carried out, with no knife found."
